I have been working at Thales-Raytheon Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

-Company allows for a flexible schedule and alternate Fridays off
-Fairly stable employment for short term, usually less than 50 hours per week
-Tons of well educated, kind indeviduals here that are willing to put in their own time to help you

    Cons

-HR seems to take forever to respond to issues
-Company does not seem very diversified, and this location is slowly shrinking
-Little if any training in new areas
-Cyclical government work, layoffs hit every few years

    Advice to Management

-Please invest in training your engineers
-Reassess pay and benefits, they doesn't seem very competitive anymore
-Invest in proper tools so that engineers can be efficient and effective

    Pros

Great Companies to Work for. Good colaborating systems engineers and management.

    Cons

Management needs to give more credit to individuals exceeding work expectation!

    Advice to Management

Paper performance reviews need to be improved rather than words of appreciation!

    Pros

Their money spends like any other corporate money; and they sell a good product that meets the customer expectations without exceptions.

    Cons

There are other companies whose money is easier to earn and their money spends like any other corporate money; and they sell a good product that meets the customer expectations without exceptions.

    Advice to Management

Go home shave and look yourself in the mirror; as no one is really impressed that you work for a Raytheon division.

    Pros

People that work here are really nice and always willing to help. Flexiable work schedule.

    Cons

Hard work doesn't get rewarded that often. Lot of senior management changes.

    Advice to Management

Need to improved employee moral. Should identify hard working employees and promote them before they leave the orginization.

    Pros

A nice working environment and people are very friendly over there. Co-worker is willing to help each other most of the time.

    Cons

Too many processes and hierarchies. It is so hard to get promotion if you are doing very well.

    Advice to Management

Too many system engineers without formal training and knowledge about what they are supposed to know.

    I worked at Thales-Raytheon Systems full-time

    Pros

TRS is a relatively small branch of Raytheon. It's a slightly more flexible environment. Communication is relatively good with immediate management (of course it depends on your manager). Upper management is pretty responsive to Employee Opinion Surveys.

    Cons

Raytheon (and TRS) is too obsessed with having managers for everything. The management structure is too big and complex.
Raytheon is also too obsessed with dividing the company up into a "better" format. This ends up segregating the divisions too much and reducing communication between the divisions.

    Advice to Management

I would suggest reducing (flattening) the management structure. Remove middle management.
Also focus more on individuals being responsible for the entire team instead of solely for their own tasks. You need to better encourage working together.
