I have been working at Thales full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Laid-back work environment. You have no urgent matter at all in this company. They opened a new cafe, but it is not free. You may need to pay more ie, starbucks coffee is about 50c more expensive than Starbucks a block down.

    Cons

If you are not a french, you can’t go up beyond director. VP and above are all french. They are simply pouring down french people from the top. They are adding some french managers who brought from france headquarter now. I am guessing in near future US born employees will do laundry job only in this company.

    Advice to Management

Why don’t you move your office back to france?

I worked at Thales full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Benefits, PTO mirror that of European packages.

    Cons

Management lacks creativity and becomes threatened by new blood. Makes for an uncomfortable work enviroment. Employees follow management and found a lot of office politics, two faced employees trying to get ahead.

    Advice to Management

Clean house and get those bad eggs that are keeping you from becoming a source to be roconded with.

I have been working at Thales full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people, good pay & benefits. Generous vacation time.

    Cons

Massively wasteful processes. Massive inertia to change. Trench-warfare bureaucracy enforced by middle managers while Directors & VPs do nothing. Extra layers of "VP's" who don't work for the President but get paid like VP's. New 7-figure executive positions being created while they cut costs by eliminating $20/hr value-adding positions. Aging business model probably entering its extinction phase.

    Advice to Management

Stop creating new Director and "VP" positions to retain managers who didn't succeed. Let them go. Take an interest in the competitiveness-crushing processes your middle managers enforce, and why they don't improve. Your people could improve them in days if you backed them up and removed obstacles. Fire every director and above responsible for the SAP implementation which cost millions, resulted in sustained sub-80% on-time delivery, bitter customers and industry partners, and created supply chain blind spots that still haunt us--all without improving a single business metric 18 months later.

    Cons

I have been working at Thales as a contractor

    Pros

Nice teammates (same level, not management), hard workers, the work can be interesting, very good representation of women in tech, benefits for non-contract permanents are good

    Cons

    - Any budget issues, contractors laid off en masse, no job security and never feel part of the team, makes lower-level permanents nervous too
    - Big divide between older employees and younger, many older employees consider working with youngers a waste of their time and treat them accordingly, hostile and discouraging
    - Old company stuck in its ways, not open to change, no time allocated or support for learning new technologies or considering new directions
    - Siloing
    - People "promoted" to management positions they don't really want, making them terrible managers
    - Homophobic, transphobic, sometimes even racist atmosphere and jokes
    - Socially unfriendly, clique forming

    Advice to Management

    - Don't treat employees as disposable
    - Foster growth of younger employees to take advantage of willingness to learn and fresh perspectives, better results and reduced frustration from older crowd
    - Don't make someone a manager/lead/owner/etc unless they asked for it, have good temperament, and get training on effective management
    - Constant restructuring disrupting focus and work
    - Maybe sensitivity training
