I worked at Thames Water as a contractor

    Pros

I am a US citizen and lived in England with a Military husband. I work for the US Federal Service but have to wait for a opening when my husband is transferred between duty stations. I worked a Thames Water until a opening with the US government. I was hired as a temporary employee and this was my first job for a foreign company. My Supervisor and the co-workers were lovely. My duties and goals were well laid out. If I lived in the England I would work for Thames Water again.

    Cons

They sprayed regularly for fleas when the office was closed but the darn fleas chewed up my ankles and legs. They didn't bother my co-workers so I assume that the fleas thought I was fresh meat. :-)

I have been working at Thames Water full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A great team of people throughout the business, hard work is often rewarded, and the management are always on hand to support you in any matter.

    Cons

Not enough staff to achieve what they want to, and the staff that are there are are pushed to deliver.

    Advice to Management

Employ more staff, focus on what you want to achieve and stick to the same plan and see it through.

I have been working at Thames Water full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Big company, loads of responsibility early on. Thrown into it all. Great to be part of a company on the up. Keeping tap water tasty and safe. Love being able to say I'm part of that.

    Cons

Massive companies take time to change. There's also a lot of layers of management which can dilute messages from the top down or bottom up.

    Advice to Management

Get out of the office and into the field as often as possible.

    Pros

This company and it's people do amazing things keeping London operating every day

    Cons

The new CEO has bought in a team with little experience and got rid of the ones who knew what they were doing

    Advice to Management

Think about your loyal people as much as the regulator and the press

    Pros

Their innovation department employs respected experts who gave some great advice and guidance.
Professional yet relatively informal work environment, leading to good productivity
Feeling of real impact on peoples lives

    Cons

    Some projects required repetitive work
Slight separation of the innovation department from other departments
Could have more amenities on the site that i was based
    Team leaders seemed over worked

    Advice to Management

Try to bridge the gap between innovation and other departments.
Try to accomodate more opportunities to contribute to projects other than ones designated ones, providing more out of the box thinking and alternative viewpoints

    Pros

Thames offer a great graduate scheme that offers a lot of opportunities if you are unsure which direction you want to take your career in. The staff are for the most part very friendly and helpful and there is a good working environment in most of the offices.

    Cons

People are often overworked and budget limitations often halt progress.
    Change generally happens very slowly.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in permanent staff to increase internal skill sets and cut back on the use of contractors.

    Pros

This is a large company, easily recognisable on future curriculum vitae. Lots of engagement with whole company provided.

    Cons

There is little opportunity for promotion, unless you have no life outside of work. Bad work/life balance
