I have been working at The Aerospace Corporation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

My pros and cons are in comparison to my experience at some of the typical large aerospace contractors:
    * Pay is competitive within the aerospace industry
    * Flexible schedule including 9/80 (2 types depending on which Friday you want off)
    * Independent and technically challenging work environment
    * Pension plan
    * Less stressful and steady work pace
    * Variety of projects available
    * Plenty of employee resources available (on-site gym, cafeteria, rental car, interoffice shuttle, training courses)
    * Better job security

    Cons

    * Annual raises are not guaranteed
    * Less social interaction with other coworkers due to employee independence
    * Can be pigeon-holed into one job or role due to lack of ambition or visibility to management
    * Less hands-on with hardware (aside from lab roles) and more hands-on with documents (either reviewing them or generating them)
    * Not as technologically advanced in certain areas

I have been working at The Aerospace Corporation (More than a year)

    Pros

Stable, reduced stress, surrounded by smart folks, great work-life balance.

    Cons

Narrow growth prospects - sucks if you came at the wrong level.

    Advice to Management

Don't just talk about employee retention, development, training, etc. Prove it.

I have been working at The Aerospace Corporation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

If you find the right fit, this can be an excellent place to work. Great opportunities for technical growth, supportive management, excellent exposure within and outside of corporation.

    Cons

If you don't, it can be miserable. Lots of department politics, management favoritism, and boring work.

    Advice to Management

Stop counting on favoritism, pieces of paper submitted, and one-on-a-million satellite saves to determine an employees' worth. Look at the big picture.

    Collaboration between divisions is limited.

Keep up the great opportunities for training and advancement.

    Pros

Good place work.. Good pay. Really interesting work, all R&D work.

    Cons

Not a lot of time off 6 days a year. They don't treat contractors very well.

    Advice to Management

    Be honest!

    Pros

Great intern experience. I was given real and significant projects rather than trivial ones which is the case at some internships. The senior staff that I worked under were very accessible, helpful, and friendly. I ended up learning a lot

    Cons

Most of the employees are older, and they don't really promote an exciting or engaging intern culture. No housing is provided.

    Pros

The people are friendly and competent (you can't swing your arms without smacking into a PhD), the pay is reasonable, and the benefits would make a financial planner weep.

    Cons

Career growth can be a bit of a slow boat. You won't always be working on the most riveting problems. The only recognized means of communication between groups is the powerpoint slide.

    Pros

Interesting work, very smart colleagues, company has a unique role within the Aerospace industry, work-life balance is excellent.

    Cons

As everyone else says, salary/raises are poor, (although benefits are good), and there is very limited opportunity for upward mobility.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at The Aerospace Corporation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Easy job, just going to meetings all day long, no pressure
The metric for the govt customer is number of MTS "units (hours)" which can be met by any warm body

    Cons

For this taxpayer funded nonprofit, CEO makes over $9 million/year and the VPs $2 million a year. Meanwhile, the working staff have experienced a number of no pay increase years.
Not good for a young person that wants to create something new or build something other than Powerpoint slides

    Advice to Management

Make executive salaries at Aerospace consistent with salaries at MITRE, RAND, and for-profit companies
