    Pros

    You can work from anywhere.

    Cons

    1. The pay is too low. 2. There are too many students in the classes. 3. They expect you to go to meetings but want you to do it for volunteer work and not pay. 4. They expect you to take extra classes to have 10 hours of continued education. But wont even let their employees enroll in their own classes for free. 5. They don't allow for Facilitators to attend any meeting related to curriculum changes or updates, or...

    Advice to Management

I have given advice to management in the past and they don't listen so no point in writing it out here.

    Pros

Coworkers were typically pleasant to be around.

    Cons

Terrible management. Managers treat their employees terribly and threaten to fire them in order to get their numbers up. Ridiculously high turnover rate. They do not care about anyone but themselves.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees like people. Train everyone the same way. Results are produced when employees are happy, not when they are constantly afraid of losing their jobs.

I have been working at The Art Institute Online full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

When the AiO started in 2000, it was a wonderful place to work. I loved it! The school was innovative and the faculty were encouraged to be creative. The focus of the school was on quality education and student success. As an instructor I saw major changes over the years and by 2005 the focus of the institution changed drastically. After that it has gotten worse and worse. I thought the shift to Non-Profit last year...

    Cons

Some serious issues: 1. Too many students in classes. 2. Full Time faculty required to teach too many classes. 3. Unfair compensation.... some faculty are paid 80K and higher while others are paid 40K (with the older faculty making less than some new hires). 4. Very little vacation time/sick time. 5. Expected to work 60 - 80 plus hours per week. No compensation to working more hours. 6. Poor benefits. 7. Many...

    Advice to Management

Remove unqualified management. Stop micromanaging faculty. Increase faculty pay fairly. Reduce the size of classes.... give faculty time off.

    Pros

They offer a pretty good pay, a great work environment, and solid benefits. It's great getting to go to work here everyday.

    Cons

What your job experience is like can vary greatly from director to director. I find their Compliance gaps to put a lot of unnecessary feelings of having to watch over your shoulder especially for newer employees.

    Advice to Management

Change compliance gaps, split up pto and sick time. Treat employees situationally instead of slapping a rule or compliance gap on it.

    Pros

    Working at home is great

    Cons

More than half the students are barely at a 4th grade reading and writing level Students are encouraged by the “academic counselors” to have a customer service mentality Micro-managers: 2-5 people review your classes, like Office Space Managers are told not to give anything higher than a 3/5 rating for faculty reviews Managers rarely compliment, it is not a culture of positivity Workload is set up so if you want...

      Pros

There are NO PROS at this place.

      Cons

Horrible place to work. The educational system, the teaching and the management are automated. It's the BORG. If they could function without living teachers, they would...I think they re headed that way.

      Pros

Work when you want, but make deadlines. Nobody breathing down your neck.

      Cons

A lot of hours grading/participating in discussions Quality of work and dedication (9 years) gets you nowhere. Constant downsizing, hard to communicate with admin. Greed with upper admin.

I have been working at The Art Institute Online part-time for more than 6 years

      Pros

There is a core group of supportive leaders/educators committed to doing the best they can with limited time and resources to improve the quality of the online programs. Communication between department leaders and instructors is good. Flexibility of teaching online can be a positive, but be prepared to be on the clock up to 24/7. There are high but appropriate expectations of online faculty. Be prepared to meet them....

      Cons

Online instructors cannot modify courses, but some courses need a complete overhaul and are difficult to teach because the content of the course is either outdated or does not sufficiently prepare students to succeed. Instructors sometimes spend more time trying to explain poorly written instructions than teaching and helping students learn. Overall quality of student work is erratic because of the inconsistent quality...

      Advice to Management

Emphasize quality courses, quality instruction, and be more selective when admitting students. Rebuild reputation and branding. Quality programs will restore profitability.
