I have been working at The Beer Store part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Decent hours, typically easy going. A great job if working under the right people. I've worked for great managers/ft and horrible ones and it makes the world of a difference. If everyone is working hard the days are great.

    Cons

Part time expectations are incredibly high while full timers do half the job for twice the pay. Hardly any room for growth. Constantly understaffed. The higher you are on the totem pole the less work they seem to do. It's extremely unfair.

    Advice to Management

Be a part of your team. Be present. Staff properly - not just to your own benefit. Ensure your full timers are doing the whole job - not just loading all day. More times than not part timers take on 95% of the days work. Should be a team aspect, not a high stress high pressure day for one person.

I worked at The Beer Store (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Get to stay active and on your feet throughout the work day. POS system was easy to learn. Plenty of good people to work with.

    Cons

Customers can be difficult at times. Some aspects of the job, such as empty returns, can be dirty.

    Advice to Management

Update look and feel of the stores.

I worked at The Beer Store part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Homogenous group of personalities for employees
    - Everyday is unique
    - Company stands behind their employees right to not be abused by customers (within reason)
    - Get to discuss different beers (especially awesome for Craft Beer drinkers)

I loved working for this company (and am actually trying to go back!). There are days when it's super busy, and customers are jerks, and you're covered in the spit of a thousands mouths from peoples' unwashed empties, but it's an active, usually fun, fairly laidback place to work, and you get to talk about beer.

    Cons

    - Sometimes you smell gross (old beer)
    - Customers can be violent (especially if intoxicated)
    - Union environment means seniority over skill (you may be subjected to

    Advice to Management

    - More and better cameras covering all angles of the inside and outside of the stores in higher-crime neighbourhoods

I have been working at The Beer Store part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Colleagues have your back, especially when dealing with horrendous 'customers'. I work in a sketch area where we are constantly robbed, I trust the people I work with to help.

    Cons

Dealing with the rude, lazy, arrogant, collectors, alcoholics, druggies, robbers.

    Advice to Management

    None

I have been working at The Beer Store full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-Fast paced environment, good if you like multi tasking and busy workdays
-Full time has very good benefits and pension options
-Opportunities will be given only if you ask

    Cons

-Logistics environment is pretty sexist, no HR reps for warehouse locations
-Unions very protected, management gets overworked, underpaid and underappreciated
-Supervisors have little to no leadership or communication skills and should all get thorough training/retraining
-No one is properly trained to be a trainer - training is little to none and results in delayed skill development and unnecessary errors
-Staff is underappreciated and productivity suffers because of it
-Supervisors do not have any interest in the development of their staff
-Have not had a performance review since I started 2 years ago
-Stronger management with better leadership skills would improve the workplace and morale

    Pros

Great atmosphere and great pay after you have been there for s few years. Never a dull moment. Always something to do to keep you busy

    Cons

People bring in so many dirty empties. They don't like touching them. What make us want to touch them.

    Advice to Management

I don't really have anything negative to say to my manager at this current time. He's been really great to work for the past few years

    Pros

Part time position but if you wanted to have full time hours supervisors could schedule this

Unlike other some call centres hours of operation are no later than 7pm

Good job to acquire call centre/ customer service experience

    Cons

Many people dissatisfied with their work responsibilities and found compensation inadequate made environment unpleasant at times

Management tries to create "supervisor" positions so that seasoned staff can train new staff, this is not reflected in their pay, the only benefit is receiving full time hours booked in a 5 day schedule instead of spread out

Unionizing is extremely discouraged despite retail Beer Store employees having a union

If you work overtime management will request that you shuffle your hours to the next week, so that you aren't eligible for overtime pay (something that would not happen with union representation)

    Advice to Management

Asking employees to shift their overtime hours to the next week is not something you'd expect from a large corporation like this one

The CEO Ted Moroz seems to genuinely care about employees despite departments like this one cutting corners, in hopes of saving money

Be less biased, actually survey employees and take their suggestions into consideration
