I have been working at The Bristal Assisted Living full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great company!!! Great residents!!! I go to work every day and am so greatfull! Management are so professional... But can still be down to earth! Never feel uncomfortable around them! I have seen so many people get promoted! The Bristal gives out extra money just because it's back to school! And Stop &Shop gift cards for the 4th! And staff week is Amazing!! I can't believe sometimes I work here!If you love your job and it shows ... They will help you succeed! Love this COMPANY!!!

    Cons

Unfortunately... Some amazing residents pass on :(... They become family.. It can be tough.. But.. I remember the good times we had. There are always great pics for memories..

I worked at The Bristal Assisted Living (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very nice people and relax. Everyone is friendly and fun be and work with.

    Cons

Not really a con but you do have some cranky residents ordering you around because they think they paid to live there.

    Advice to Management

Need to hire more people, they (supervisors) always complaint about not enough people to be at a certain places but won't hire more people.

    Pros

Pay is good, couple of bonuses though out the year, 401k and decent schedule

    Cons

A lot of labor at times, management is not always on your side, benefits are expensive

    Advice to Management

Loosen up and cut some slack, support the staff, lighten the work load

    The Bristal Assisted Living Response

Thank you for your feedback. The Bristal generally provides at least four bonuses yearly...three smaller "thank you" type mini-bonuses, plus larger bonuses at year-end holiday time. The 401(k) offers ... More

I have been working at The Bristal Assisted Living full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent front line staff. Long tenured and very dedicated. Decent salary. Sadly not much else. It could be such a good company.

    Cons

Horrible communication from upper management, micro management, poor decision making, management by fear, no idea how to grow and nurture people.

    Advice to Management

    Retire.

    Pros

Working with passionate people at the community level. Making a difference in the every day lives of seniors and family members. The role is rewarding whenever you have the opportunity to empower people and solve problems.

    Cons

Engel Burman is the management division for The Bristal (corporate team). The Corporate folks lack vision, any knowledge of the industry and very rarely did you get a feeling that these folks had any idea on what was going on. Training was often talked about by corporate folks however never existed. A sales culture that utilized bully tactics and gossip to create fear and a hostile environment. A wellness team that had unqualified people (no RN's or LPN's). Overall disfunction and what do you expect from incompetent over paid folks that are content making 6 figures and no interest in changing how seniors live. Worst Culture i have ever been around.

    Advice to Management

Find Something you enjoy, it does not look like you enjoy your careers in this industry

I worked at The Bristal Assisted Living full-time

    Pros

SOME of the staff are very helpful in getting you settled, helping you to learn the routines, and how to deal with certain things. They offer some bonuses year round, little to nothing.

    Cons

Morning shift people are severely overworked, all HHA's & Med Tech's are underpayed. Management does not care about you, or your well being, they are deceitful, direspectful, rude, and do what they feel like when they feel like. They are constantly watching, and following you. If you don't wear a suit, or are an RN you are treated as dirt. You pay for meals, that you dont get to chose, you eat whatever they give you basically. Theyre means of communication i.e beepers/pagers do not work, then they try to write you up/ blame you for not having known things. They allow their residents to disrespect you, and give them the impression that you are their own private aide. They tell you the patients have Dementia etc then when the patient complains you stole something, or you yelled at them, they start investigating and believe them, which typically occurs in patients to have memory loss. Horrible work environment. Some staff have to be avoided, some people dont want to do their work, and somehow everything gets blamed on the person who is visible. No room for growth at all.

    Advice to Management

Stand behind your employees, we work for you, we represent you, we do the "dirty work", while you all collect the big bucks, and treat us like garbage. RESPECT your staff!

    Pros

if you enjoy helping people it is the company to work for. The residents are fantastic. the company offers a lot of things that other assisted living communities don't offer. You get bonus every three months, good benifits and they offer 401k which is great . Great coworkers.

    Cons

Well like a lot of companies if you know the right people, you will move up quicker then the average person.
