    Pros

The people who worked there were all very nice and fun to be around. Everyone (except upper level management) is extremely hardworking and motivated. The hotel itself, is gorgeous and you get to meet a lot of important guests.

    Cons

The management can be very lazy and unprofessional. You work long hours and have an unpredictable schedule. You also have to pay for parking, which is expensive downtown. Starting pay is pretty low and advancement can take a long time. There is a lot of favoritism.

    Advice to Management

The more you invest in your employees, the more reliable they are and want to do a good job. Management needs to realize that they are role models for their employees. If you go out to smoke every 15 minutes as a the Director of Operations, why shouldn't everyone else?

I have been working at The Brown Hotel Louisville (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people. Free horrible lunch daily.

    Cons

No room for advancement, no review for raises, only top management benefits, your benefits come out of your check you pay for everything. Retirement only benefits higher payer range employees. They use gratuities that are suppost to go to employees for banquets. And basically pocket them. Something fishy between sales and top management.

I worked at The Brown Hotel Louisville part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - It's a piece of history, gorgeous and inspirational on a personal level
    - Great money making potential for service staff
    - Decent benefits offered

    Cons

    - No free employee parking, except for managers and some other lucky folk
    - Management are in over their heads and "may be" drinking on the job
    - Generally understaffed, so a lot is expected from numerous positions
    - As most business, it's all about the big wigs wallet, not the people who actually do their dirty work!

    Advice to Management

Get in touch with your heart and appreciate what you still have, as it may be gone sooner than you think. Karma is real.

    Neutral Outlook

    Pros

You learn from the best on how to treat a guest- customer service skills are out of this world. It is a beautiful work environment, just walk around and you'll see. Seems they hire within a lot.

    Cons

Low salaries, way too high expectations. Felt as if you are lucky to work there rather than being valued as an employee. Too many hotels to go to for this mentality.

I have been working at The Brown Hotel Louisville full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Can stay at other historic hotels across the world at a discount rate.

    Cons

Extremely bigoted, AND an executive management system that is VERY biased and hands off even though the company handbook says otherwise.
    Upper management is horrible.

    Advice to Management

Needs to be replaced or repaired!
Owners need to realize that there needs to be some SERIOUS training or replacement.
