I worked at The CBORD Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

LOTS of interesting projects, lots of opportunities to do good work, dedicated and talented co-workers

    Cons

Leadership is a MESS, management are afraid to make decisions, no direction

    Advice to Management

(note Jim Hoefflin is the current company president) more transparency, more communication between departments

I worked at The CBORD Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you are looking to gain exposure and experience working with virtual servers, Sybase, Oracle and more related technologies this is a good starting point. There are some great customers to work with and you sometimes look forward to seeing them put in a case for support.

There are a lot of great, hard-working people in the support portion of this company who can offer a lot of help and knowledge. I found plenty of willingness to help from other teams within the company that I felt recognized the work ethic and effort that was put forth by employees. Work and life balance is pretty good from my experience. Managers can be very flexible and understanding for time off when needed.

    Cons

Pay is below the industry standard by a decent margin. Raises seem to be equally low.

Little to no training for new techs.

Support seems to be a pigeonhole which does not leave many opportunities to move up in the company.

Management can be slow on the uptake to notice the work of their support associates leaving a level of job dissatisfaction. There are small elements within the company that are good at playing the game of office politics while not really offering any real contributions to their teams or the company itself which can have some very negative impacts.

The metrics system is a bit of a joke as you are rated based on how many calls you make, notes you take and cases you closes. It seems to be a numbers game with competitions among the teams to compete based on those metrics. It makes it a struggle to stand out and enjoy your job if your team is understaffed or you have team members who simply cannot carry their weight.

No programs in place to help further the skill sets of employees.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees. I believe it would be a great help to them to improve their skills and experience by assisting in their continued education. There are some managers who really know their product and some managers who know very little about theirs. Having a fundamental understanding of the product will greatly improve not only team cohesion but give you a better platform of understanding when dealing with some of the issues that come in.

    Cons

Not many if you work hard and do your job!! If you don't it may take a while but management will figure it out.

    Pros

Great co-workers and a new office.

    Cons

Roper only provided a president who is shared between 2 companies. The focus is on the bottom line and not on innovation or the employees. The company had its
1st layoffs in company history after years of growth and profit.

    Advice to Management

This company grew on the backs of its employees and strong values, not greed.

    Pros

Excellent culture - worker bees are great. Love the collaboration and interest people have for each other - especially in the Support area.

    Cons

It takes SO LONG to get decisions made when upper management is involved. The impact on day to day work can be detrimental.

    Advice to Management

Streamline your decision making process - and get things like position requisitions approved or denied in a more timely fashion.

I have been working at The CBORD Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people who work here are fantastic, very invested in your success and become family quickly.
Easy accessibility to senior management--have had many questions answered by them and can call or e-mail with anything that pops up with a timely response/concern.
Work/life balance is great--work hard, play hard type mentality!
Flexibility--manager always works with us for any time off needed, dr. apts., unexpected issues that arise, always understanding!
Open concept floor plan and office--business casual atmosphere, not stuffy at all.
Compared to industry/national average PTO accrual and offerings is above par when combined vacation, sick, personal and holiday leave.

    Cons

It's all how you look at it--you can either focus on the positives or the negatives--in my opinion the positives far outweigh any negative experience I've had thus far in my career with CBORD.

    Advice to Management

Continue to listen and respect opinions of employees and good things will continue to happen as a result of that!

I have been working at The CBORD Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Stable. Annual License Fees = jobs for the foreseeable future. An invested customer base is a good thing.

    Cons

Tough place to actually succeed. Products are developed in a silo and as a result two sets of dev folks could end up coming up with overlapping products. There is often lack of a clear roadmap for products and for the company as a whole. Senior Management is slow to make needed changes and the two different businesses (card systems and nutrition software) seem like they play by different rules.

    Advice to Management

Integrity. Do what you say you are going to do, when you say you are going to do it, every time.

I have been working at The CBORD Group (More than 8 years)

    Pros

A lot of hard-working hourly employees. Decent work/life balance,

    Cons

Hourly workers are under-paid and under-valued. CBORD has Silos like none other. The company is more than less run by 2 or 3 Seniors.
Managers not trusted or empowered; they have no voice and are basically glorified paper pushers and people sitters.
Decisions seem to be made by a couple Sr. Execs. without involving middle management. Communication form Sr leadership down to departments is non-existent. Mentoring and encouraging professional growth is also non-existent.

    Advice to Management

Remove the silos, trim the levels of "management", invest in a good accounting system, overhaul HR. The best customer experience should begin with the internal customer. Most importantly - Don't allow one, close-minded, bias VP call all the shots.

I have been working at The CBORD Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I like the work I do and some of the employees are professional and helpful, take their job seriously.

    Cons

From the time you walk in the door, they expect everyone to jump in with little or no training. Employees train newbies, management has no clue what the employees in the trenches do. This company has grown so fast and do not have any updated procedures nor a computer system savvy enough to handle the business. They spent a ton of money of an accounting system that makes people do too many manual processes just to get reports so the senior staff can sit back and enjoy their coffee and donuts while the rest if us bust our butt for pennies and crappy benefits. The senior staff has no freaking clue and will NEVER wake up to reality. People say accounting is a joke, the whole internal controls are a serious joke and sales are so not responsible for making sure the customers information is right. It goes thru order desk, billing, then collections before the customers complain their bills are wrong. Hmmm.. I wonder how that's even possible since the sales person can't possibly take time to make sure they are getting the correct information the first time! Wake up CBORD senior staff!!

    Advice to Management

Wow.. like someone suggested. Burn the place down! Now moving to another facility. . And that's supposed to help??? NOT IN A BIZILLION YEARS!!!

    Pros

    - Stable job outlook, never laid anyone off or suspended operations
    - Products you can get behind
    - Great colleagues to work with

    Cons

    - Below average employee compensation package including salary, health care, and 401K plan
    - Upper management seems disconnected from staff
    - Poor internal employee resources
    - No continuing education program

    Advice to Management

    - Develop a compensation program that is comparable to other companies in a similar industry
    - Promote employee growth and development with a continuing education program
    - Rather than only rewarding employees with words of encouragement, tie compensation adjustments to reviews and performance
