I have been working at The CBORD Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people who work here are fantastic, very invested in your success and become family quickly.
Easy accessibility to senior management--have had many questions answered by them and can call or e-mail with anything that pops up with a timely response/concern.
Work/life balance is great--work hard, play hard type mentality!
Flexibility--manager always works with us for any time off needed, dr. apts., unexpected issues that arise, always understanding!
Open concept floor plan and office--business casual atmosphere, not stuffy at all.
Compared to industry/national average PTO accrual and offerings is above par when combined vacation, sick, personal and holiday leave.

    Cons

It's all how you look at it--you can either focus on the positives or the negatives--in my opinion the positives far outweigh any negative experience I've had thus far in my career with CBORD.

    Advice to Management

Continue to listen and respect opinions of employees and good things will continue to happen as a result of that!

I have been working at The CBORD Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Working with great people for the most part, but there are elite cliques with big egos
Halfway decent hardware to work on

    Cons

The new president, Jim Hofflein, is short-sighted and not compassionate. He promoted a person and laid the person off two weeks later. He has been taking a hatchet ever since he came. Massive software development layoff just took place so we are left with on-site staff who only know 15 year old technology and do not want to listen to new ideas. He is ruining our culture.

    Advice to Management

Never once did you ever ask for feedback or suggestions, and my manager does not want to hear them. Not letting people work from home is STUPID.

I have been working at The CBORD Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Was once a great place to work and grow. I've been a loyal employee for many years, and worked in several departments with many people.

I've worked on the Helpdesk, Implementation, and other roles.

    Cons

    New CEO. Big changes.

We're in the midst of a massive cultural shift. Most of this is due to CBORD changing its business model and adapting to a new market reality. However, from an employee's view, job security is a game of musical chairs. If your department is no longer part of future plans, then there is little hope of snagging a position in another area.

Long time employees are being let go en masse. CBORD is also showing signs of moving its HQ from the Ithaca, NY area (hence, if you apply for a job based in the Ithaca area, be prepared to move very soon).

Changes come swiftly, and quickly. No job is secure for the time being, even for new hires.

Morale is low, and decreasing. Additionally, CBORD has been known to lowball on salary, so if you're a talented recruit, look for more lucrative opportunities.

CBORD seldom gives raises of any value. Additionally, the benefits package is sub-par.

If you are looking to settle with a company long term, stay away from CBORD.

Once the current president moves on to his next gig, or whenever the company feels it's "goals" are met, CBORD may once again be a place for long term employee growth.

    Consider this your warning.

    Pros

Great co-workers and a new office.

    Cons

Roper only provided a president who is shared between 2 companies. The focus is on the bottom line and not on innovation or the employees. The company had its
1st layoffs in company history after years of growth and profit.

    Advice to Management

This company grew on the backs of its employees and strong values, not greed.

    Pros

Excellent culture - worker bees are great. Love the collaboration and interest people have for each other - especially in the Support area.

    Cons

It takes SO LONG to get decisions made when upper management is involved. The impact on day to day work can be detrimental.

    Advice to Management

Streamline your decision making process - and get things like position requisitions approved or denied in a more timely fashion.

I have been working at The CBORD Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Stable. Annual License Fees = jobs for the foreseeable future. An invested customer base is a good thing.

    Cons

Tough place to actually succeed. Products are developed in a silo and as a result two sets of dev folks could end up coming up with overlapping products. There is often lack of a clear roadmap for products and for the company as a whole. Senior Management is slow to make needed changes and the two different businesses (card systems and nutrition software) seem like they play by different rules.

    Advice to Management

Integrity. Do what you say you are going to do, when you say you are going to do it, every time.

I have been working at The CBORD Group (More than 8 years)

    Pros

A lot of hard-working hourly employees. Decent work/life balance,

    Cons

Hourly workers are under-paid and under-valued. CBORD has Silos like none other. The company is more than less run by 2 or 3 Seniors.
Managers not trusted or empowered; they have no voice and are basically glorified paper pushers and people sitters.
Decisions seem to be made by a couple Sr. Execs. without involving middle management. Communication form Sr leadership down to departments is non-existent. Mentoring and encouraging professional growth is also non-existent.

    Advice to Management

Remove the silos, trim the levels of "management", invest in a good accounting system, overhaul HR. The best customer experience should begin with the internal customer. Most importantly - Don't allow one, close-minded, bias VP call all the shots.

    Pros

You do get to work on the state or the art for some systems. However, for older systems you might be working on 15 year old technology.

    Cons

The management makes the place horrific. They protect themselves with layers of management, never take ownership or give direction. If things go well, they take the credit and get over paid. If things go wrong, you take all the blame. It is a terrible management model and makes the company a truly "stay away" for any competent talent.

    Advice to Management

Support your staff, they try very hard to make the products work. If things get difficult, HELP, don't criticize. Take ownership of large projects and clear out upper management bloat. Fill the ranks of the developers and support staff. They are the ones making and maintaining the products!

I have been working at The CBORD Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I like the work I do and some of the employees are professional and helpful, take their job seriously.

    Cons

From the time you walk in the door, they expect everyone to jump in with little or no training. Employees train newbies, management has no clue what the employees in the trenches do. This company has grown so fast and do not have any updated procedures nor a computer system savvy enough to handle the business. They spent a ton of money of an accounting system that makes people do too many manual processes just to get reports so the senior staff can sit back and enjoy their coffee and donuts while the rest if us bust our butt for pennies and crappy benefits. The senior staff has no freaking clue and will NEVER wake up to reality. People say accounting is a joke, the whole internal controls are a serious joke and sales are so not responsible for making sure the customers information is right. It goes thru order desk, billing, then collections before the customers complain their bills are wrong. Hmmm.. I wonder how that's even possible since the sales person can't possibly take time to make sure they are getting the correct information the first time! Wake up CBORD senior staff!!

    Advice to Management

Wow.. like someone suggested. Burn the place down! Now moving to another facility. . And that's supposed to help??? NOT IN A BIZILLION YEARS!!!

I have been working at The CBORD Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The scenery in the park is nice.

    Cons

Absolutely everything. From upper management to middle management. No respect for employees, they treat everyone with the same "you are replaceable" attitude. President has his head so far in the clouds he hasn't a clue what is going on. Human Resources is so untrustworthy, benefits hasn't a clue what they are doing, insurance constantly changes and increases. Raises are minimal, barely cover insurance hikes. Employees are mostly bitter and resentful. Very juvenile in many departments. Accounting is a nightmare, it's like a horrible junior high soap opera, scary to think they deal with auditors!

    Advice to Management

Burn the place down and start over.
