I have been working at The Capital Grille full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great money, freedom to do what's right by your guest. Able to stand by your product (90 percent of the time). Personalities are encouraged.

    Cons

Very corporate atmosphere. Can be somewhat cutthroat. Can be both emotionally and physically challenging. Unpredictability of schedule. Very shareholder driven mentality.

    Pros

Great development program, great money, many opportunities to grow within the orginization, and they keep you involved

    Cons

Working with people that do not have the equivalent experience as you. Making double the $$ the managers, often feeling made as if your doing something wrong with making so much money.

    Neutral Outlook

    Pros

Extremely flexible with my school schedule and took care of me at every step. Higher pay for hourly workers than industry average.

    Cons

Management needed to be stronger. Ended up having to work later hours when team members would pull a no show.

    Advice to Management

Be stronger as a team and be clear about what you all expect. Different managers expected things to be done differently and it was difficult to please them all.

    Pros

Talented, hardworking team that encouraged building your knowledge base and honored those who showed an interest in growing professionally. The heirarchy was blurred by the emphasis on teamwork and the enthusiasm to teach whomever wanted to learn. I loved working here, learned a ton and felt proud of the product we delivered. I gave a "neutral" review of senior management because I saw both ends of the spectrum. I can't speak enough praise for the good ones!

    Cons

Inconsistency from location to location. Brand standards and culture are not equally implemented everywhere, and coming from one restaurant that lived and breathed the passion for quality and outstanding guest service that set TCG apart, to one that really didn't seem to mind that much that they weren't upholding that was a huge letdown, and made it tough to respect management, and to take pride in your work.

    Advice to Management

Empower your employees to problem solve, and be there to back them on their actions. It makes a HUGE difference. Coming from one location that did this and more, and then transferring to another in which management opted to hide out and do inventory during the dinner rush to avoid angry guest confrontations made quality service impossible, and drove many good employees out.
