I have been working at The Capital Grille full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours, responsive management, excellent pay, possibility to move into a management position, ability to transfer to other restaurants, free online wine sommelier training, amazing medical dental vision retirement savings and stock purchasing program.

At the Cleveland location we have a team oriented front of house, a consistent and professional back of house and solid communication between the two groups. Very responsive assistant managers and sous chefs, a dedicated general manager and active regional oversight.

Working for Capital Grille has been the best employment decision I have made. They give so much that you feel compelled to give back to them, as opposed to feeling taken advantage of and coerced. (They even delivered a steak dinner to me and my wife in the hospital when she delivered our daughter. Complete with real silverware and large bottles of Fiji water.)

At Capital Grille they embody their core values daily and truly cultivate a positive and dynamic workplace environment.

    Cons

Service industry job so you need to hustle and multi-task. Guests are paying alot for food and drink so consistent, quick, cheerful, and correct service is expected. You will work holidays and weekends- but again this is service industry and it is what we have signed up for.

    Advice to Management

    Stay the course.

I have been working at The Capital Grille full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The money (when there are guests) The wine training is informative. The opportunity to network with your guests that may have other opportunities for you.

    Cons

Managers play favorites. You either have to be a man, or white to be on the large parties. inconsistent business, no real contracts for parties, so people stroll in whenever they want. Everything is always the server's fault and the managers will write you up over absolutely anything. The higher ups come down on them, and it is taken out directly on the employees. The sous chef speaks to everyone like they're worthless. Not a fun work environment at all... and the side work is outrageous!

    Advice to Management

Take care of the servers that have shown and proved since we've opened, not your buddy that you'd like to hang out with. Learn how to speak to people like the adults that they are.

I have been working at The Capital Grille full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexibility, sometimes fun, great job for making connections if you have higher career aspirations.

    Cons

No real consequences for team members who don't pull their weight- don't pay attention to sidework, leave messes all over the restaurant, don't perform basic duties of their jobs. Business is inconsistent. Guests regularly disrespect restaurant and team by not showing up for reservations without notice, showing up extremely late for reservations, not leaving gratuity earned by high level of service provided. Managers give a lot of lip service and play favorites, have inappropriate relationships/friendships with subordinates.

    Advice to Management

Start paying attention to team members who consistently put little to no effort into pulling their weight, start taking action to correct and eliminate these issues, or the culture of your restaurant will continue to suffer.
