I have been working at The Carlstar Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The people who work in the floor beside you

    Cons

The management at the Jackson location does not give a rat's behind about it's labored employees. Bring an issue up to them and response is we will talk about it. It's never mentioned again. They take your vacation for July shut down before you've even been there a year, but don't let you schedule your vacation days to use after you get it ahead of time to insure they have time to fill in for you because "it's not available...

    Advice to Management

Give a darn about your employees. How bout listening to issues AND making an effort to address them. Stop walking around like you're above them-Ricky. You're horrible

I worked at The Carlstar Group full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Limited but some career growth

    Cons

Too many coaches (directors, VP's and Chiefs) with very little to no care for their employees. These coaches will constantly introduce chaos to the operation without much understanding. The company will be sold within the next year or two to another firm (currently owned by a private equity in NY). If you like to live to work, this may be the right company but otherwise, don't work here. There is almost no raise or...

I have been working at The Carlstar Group full-time

    Pros

Financially viable, Support for CI from top level, Safety is really no 1, Good 'down to earth' people at the various divisions and corporate offices

    Cons

Lots of change but all in an attempt to fix broken processes. Market a bit soft lately but this is just a point in time. Aggressive competition from international markets

    Advice to Management

There is a need to develop strong leaders who will make decisions when needed. Team decisions are great unless the team never makes a decision. At that point someone needs to step in and move things forward.

I worked at The Carlstar Group full-time

    Pros

Good people to work with at the plant level.

    Cons

Corporate management is the worst I've ever been associated with. Micromanages the plant leadership teams without any idea of what is going on. Then holds plant leadership accountable while the corporate leaders encounter amnesia. Corporate leadership, especially the COO, is bringing the company to its knees. Key managers at many sites are leaving, which will continue. I hate it for the individual sites, but the corporate...

    Advice to Management

Get over yourself! True leaders empower their associates to perform and support them while doing so. You would think at your pay grade, you'd be smarter than you are indicating right now as you are showing your ignorance. You aren't above the rest of us.

I have been working at The Carlstar Group full-time

    Pros

Mostly nice people to work with at the plant level. Other than that, not much to say.

    Cons

Constant fire fighting! High frustration level and low morale. There are always extremely HOT issues communicated from the corporate leadership. You will be asked to work on one thing (the hottest issue at the time) and the leadership will ask you to constantly steer your direction to put out the immediate fire. However, you will be blamed on for not getting other (multiple projects) done at the same time. The leadership...

I worked at The Carlstar Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Close-knit floor staff and pockets of tribal knowledge

    Cons

Poor quality control and low morale. Management, Production and Research and Development have poor communication.

    Advice to Management

The company should operate as one continuous body focused on improving quality and customer satisfaction instead it is comprised of isolated islands of discontent.

I worked at The Carlstar Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Just to say you have a job!

    Cons

A 4 day 10 hour schedule turned into 5 day 12 hour schedule! I was trained for 2 hours on one piece of equipment and from there expected to run any machine I was put on. The leads would not fix problems, you had to fight all night to try to make production rate!! Constantly hiring because turnover rate high. Only two veteran employees so the majority was inexperienced! The most unorganized chaotic place I've ever worked...

I worked at The Carlstar Group full-time

    Pros

Started out good after transition from Carlisle. But it went down hill after that. Good people at the plant level.

    Cons

Horrible corporate leadership. Some of the most arrogant people I have ever worked with. Making employees work 7 days a week. Firing people that disagree with them.

    Advice to Management

My advice quit Take advice the people who work at the plant. Get out of the penthouse stop treating people like they are property.
