I worked at The Casa Monica Hotel (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Marriott benefits for hotels were great!

    Cons

Normal chaos of the hospitality world.

    Advice to Management

I loved my managers at the front desk, but we never had a consistent GM

    Negative Outlook

I worked at The Casa Monica Hotel full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are absolutely no pros about working at this place....it is horrible!! BEWARE!! Nothing about this place is 4 star, what you see is not what you get.

    Cons

    Management issues throughout the hotel.

    Advice to Management

I wouldn't give these people advise...

  3. "Cafe Employee"

    Pros

Received almost 40 hours every week, though it was a part time job. Most of the grand performers were very nice

    Cons

The shift scheduling was not very good, I worked long ours by myself and some days no managers would come in to see if I needed help with anything. Honestly, the management isn't very good. For most of my time there, if not the whole time, there was never a full staff in the cafe.

    Advice to Management

Be better about hiring people. Just because the team worked well together doesn't mean you can run the cafe without a full staff. Stop advertising the job as part time when most of the employees work full time hours without the benefits.

I worked at The Casa Monica Hotel full-time

    Pros

The people who work at the hotel are great. The hotel is very nice as well. The concept of the company is good. They are generous with paid time off days. I enjoyed working there for the most part and was successful there. I still have friends there.

    Cons

Corporate, The Kessler Collection in Orlando, is too large for the number of hotels they own and manage. They micro-manage from Corporate too excessively compared to other hotel companies I have worked for. The pay is somewhat below average.

    Advice to Management

Don't suffocate your Department Heads with too much micro-managing especially if they are seasoned professionals with experience. I think you could function better with fewer people at corporate and use that money to pay your managers the going rate and improve health insurance.

I have been working at The Casa Monica Hotel full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Most of the time you will get a good amount of hours. My co workers are what make this job bearable.

    Cons

The management is bad in most departments. An example is the food and beverage department. First the turnover is pretty high for all departments and positions. in my year and a half of working there i have seen atleast 8 supervisors and low level fb managers go through and quit or get fired. The new menu is a failure yet they are still trying to push it at the expense of the firm and its employees. The corporate structure is rigid which make lower level changes relatively impossible. front line employees are not listened too at all. we are expendable.

    Advice to Management

update your methods to a more horizontal corporate structure.

    Pros

I definitely feel like part of a team working together. Everyone in the company is part of a bigger picture, you really feel like you're a part of something bigger than just a job.

    Cons

Pretty demanding. It's a fast paced job which is not for everyone, but if you can keep up and like to be on your toes the pace is perfect.

I worked at The Casa Monica Hotel full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Free Starbucks coffee
    - Overall friendly coworkers
    - Some freedom and creativity allowed in what could be produced if you had time for it

    Cons

    - Will work you to death if given the chance
    - No pastry chef, the entire dessert workload falls on one person
    - Have to make your own meals during your break if you want to eat
    - Management disorganized

    Advice to Management

Establish better communication among managers and among the separate departments. Stop using your employees as punching bags because you're stressed out. Don't overwork employees; that's why they quit. If the EO gets revised, let the respective departments know instead of springing it on them at the last minute.

    Pros

Learned a good amount of information about food and wine. It's a good place to make a lot of money quickly.

    Cons

Expect to work your way up from the bottom. Company has seen a fair share of management changes and seem to put the employees under them on the back burner
