I have been working at The Challenge full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Important Mission - exciting organisation that is working to tackle difficult and vital issues in society. Proud to play a part in it and to know my work has a clear purpose. Great colleagues - consistently hires strong people into key roles . Is willing to develop staff and encourages progression - offers great development opportunities for strong performers. Proactive management - is prepared to work flexibly and...

    Cons

    - The sector that the organisation operates in is increasingly competitive and uncertain meaning that changes are always a possibility. This can be exciting as it brings new opportunities, but can be unsettling for those new to the sector or who prefer classic 9-5 working.

    Advice to Management

Don't be afraid of tough decisions to protect mission and people (too many other organisations are waiting until it is too late to the detriment of both)

I have been working at The Challenge full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Amazing opportunities for learning and development, and a diverse working day. You’re rarely in the office all day and each day is different. The training that the organisation offers you is excellent. The staff well-being and happiness is also looked after very well here.

    Cons

The pay for this role is substandard compared to similar roles in other organisations, but it is a charity so it is somewhat expected.

    I worked at The Challenge

    Pros

Attracts very nice, interesting and often diverse people to work with. The seasonal roles they offer are fun and diverse and I would recommend anyone looking for extra money over summer/autumn. I have worked two different roles over two summers

    Cons

They lack adequate numbers of management/core staff for summer programmes, often resulting in people lower down in the hierarchy being left to do more than their fair share or left without assistance. As a company that primarily operates summer/seasonal roles with new staff each year, this can be an issue in terms of maintaining standards.

I worked at The Challenge full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

      - A committed and mission-driven workforce. - A charity which is ambitious about the change it can achieve and enterprising in its pursuit of opportunities for growth. - An organisation which is very good at identifying and developing talent, and is most often genuinely meritocratic. - A fun and friendly workplace atmosphere, reflecting a real sense of organisational character. - An important mission, with a CEO who...

      Cons

      - Arguably overshot the mark in recent years in seeking to ensure that the senior leadership team possessed the experience required to run an organisation of this size as well as passion for and understanding of its mission. The extent to which this is true tends to be overstated by a young and inexperienced workforce, but upcoming senior staff changes will nonetheless offer an opportunity to make a slight course correct...
