Thank you for your review and for stating that The Challenge is a welcoming organisation with a good work life balance. We try hard to ensure new recruits are welcomed to the organisation and are able to enjoy their life outside. Our teams work very hard on the delivery of NCS across ...

I have been working at The Challenge full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

The mission is the one priority in the organisation and they are not faking it! There is always an opportunity to develop a process, work on a challenging project. Management cares for their staff.

    Cons

HR can lack courage when facing employees who are not performing. Some staff think more about what they 'should be' entitled to than actually work. Constant change can be difficult to handle.

    Advice to Management

Push for diversity at more senior levels

Thank you for your feedback. We are proud of our mission and are pleased that it is apparent that it shows in all that we do as an organisation. We recently changed our performance measurement process to address the point you make and this will continue throughout 2019 and beyond.

I worked at The Challenge full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

80% staff are only there for 3 month so don't see the real organisation.

    Cons

Staff are continually lied to about organisation decision. Staff welfare isn't valued at all the same mistakes are made year after year with false promises to correct things. Safety of young people is not considered The Challenge will cut any and all corners to make the programme as profitable as it can be to pay for the CEOs stacked director team and prop up its other failing programmes. The challenge takes money...

I worked at The Challenge full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

As a result of high turnover of staff on all levels development opportunities are always available. It has the “friends or friends” type of recruitment style, so once you are in there are opportunities to move into other roles quite quickly. The people delivering the programmes go above and beyond for the young people, they are the people who make it worthwhile to be there. Unfortunately they are often pushed to bringing...

    Cons

Starts off as a fun relaxed place to work, then it soon wears off as you’re expected to work yourself into the ground running an NCS programme that is full of flaws. More recently the programme lacks in quality and seems more of a number and target game instead of looking at the right support for the young people attending. Huge lack of transparency between senior management and the rest of the organisation. In the past...

      Pros

      - Supportive and warm work environment. Working here is all about the people. The Challenge manages to attract some of the warmest, kindest and funniest people I've ever met. - Good annual leave entitlement

      Cons

      - There isn't room for progression within every department - some more than others - so you can stagnate in a role.

      Advice to Management

Do more to reward good heads of departments who are taking it into their own hands to make roles more rewarding and challenging for their teams.
