I worked at The Clorox Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, work environment and opportunities (for some)

    Cons

Managers without depth or interest in the real workings of their businesses

    Advice to Management

Embracing diversity requires a lot more than recruiting quotas. Clorox takes the one voice, one lexicon, one way of thinking to the point that great ideas are not welcomed. It's a shame because talent is walking out the door.

    Pros

Overall a good company. Smart People make work enjoyable. There is a high level of ownership given to each employee, which makes you feel like you're making a high impact in your role.

    Cons

Maternity policy is one of the worst I've seen at any major CPG company.

More and more companies are improving their maternity/paternity benefits to 12-20+ weeks paid, and with how sensitive this issue is for working parents, I'm surprised a company as progressive as Clorox has only 4 weeks for moms, and 0 weeks for dads.

    Cons

    - More Emphasis on Cost Savings Rather Than Innovation

    Advice to Management

    - Put More Value in Innovation Rather than "Costovation"
    - Be Bold and Take Risks on Some Outside the Box Ideas

    Pros

Great people to work with. Teams are always striving to make improvements to be more efficient. Managers do care about your career and you have express your goals and show your hard work.

    Cons

Cannot think of much other than working with others who do not share the same values of hard work and dedication can hold you back at times but does not happen often. That is pretty much anywhere you go.
Health Benefits get more expensive when you make more money, it almost eliminates the yearly raise you made.

    Advice to Management

    None

I have been working at The Clorox Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work/life balance valued, very competent and talented co-workers, haven't encountered a single jerk in the company yet. On-campus cafeteria a nice perk. Dual career ladder choices (technical and management) is a nice set up for scientists. Company very stable and healthy. Facilities are nice. Company is a nice size; large enough to have resources but small enough to retain some flexibility.

    Cons

Cost of living in the area (housing really) is extremely high, pay is solid but not really keeping up. Some infectious short-termerism around that can be annoying. Risk tolerance pretty low so hard to convince management to take a chance on promising technical possibilities that aren't already proven in the consumer marketplace. This results in us often being a step behind and leaves us vulnerable to disruption. IT is really a company weakness as security policies approach draconian and basic software infrastructure is inflexible, constantly breaking, and changing often. On a whole though, most of these are relatively minor concerns.

    Advice to Management

Invest for the long term in all your business units. Continue to find ways to support employee work/life balance because it partially compensates for the high cost of living in the area (without loading you down in salary obligations that may not be necessary if it turns out that we are in a housing bubble and it pops). However, at some not-too-distant point employees that didn't get into the local housing market years ago will be priced out of working for you if salaries don't go up.

    Pros

I learned a lot from the people that work at Clorox, very smart and good at what they do.

    Cons

No work life balance. High stress bc Healthcare was growing a lot so there was so much for everyone to learn and do

    Advice to Management

Keep hiring great people because that’s what makes Clorox great, but be realistic with expectations that allow for work life balance.
