I have been working at The Clorox Company full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

My co-workers are great! The work is interesting.
Good work-life balance: 1/2 day Fridays in the summer, I typically only work 40 hour work weeks, I'm able to work from home if needed, maternity leave is good & management is understanding about the trials of new parenthood (how you actually have to take all of your sick time).

    Cons

Clorox definitely favors those who move around a lot (within the company) over those who like to stay in a position. If you find a job that you enjoy & want to stay in that position for more than 2 years, it is very difficult to get promoted.

    Advice to Management

Talk with your direct reports often about their careers & what their goals are. Employees should never be surprised by a performance review. Make it clear what is expected to reach the next level.

    Pros

The people, solid company strategy, work life balance, career development, advancement opportunities

    Cons

Salaries (underpaid), decision making can be slow / approval possesses, corporate offices split between Oakland and Pleasanton

    Advice to Management

Continue to support process improvement and aggressively peruse growth opportunities, don't be afraid to take larger risks. Increase salaries to better align with Bay Area wages!

I have been working at The Clorox Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There is good formal training and lots of programs to help you start out when you come in through the annual recruiting processes. The collaborative culture encourages cross-functional learning and visibility at all levels. The best part though is the people. Everyone is top caliber and are just great people to work with and learn from!

    Cons

Missing some career pathing transparency, but that might just be a temporary state within the marketing function. The company has a culture of "nice" which is great but sometimes just means not communicated disapproval.

I have been working at The Clorox Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - People at Clorox are incredibly friendly, smart, passionate, driven and consumer-focused

    - Strong company growth relative to the industry and categories it plays in

    - Management has a strong vision for the future

    - Strong culture of training and rotation encourages development in people and keeps things interesting.

    Cons

    - It's a big corporation, so some decisions are made for the good of the portfolio or to please Wall Street vs. for the good of the business you work on. This can be frustrating if you're working on a declining business. In management's defense, you're not dinged for working on a business in a declining category.

    - Decisions can be made glacially slowly, and then communicated suddenly due to a last-minute deadline.

    Advice to Management

    - The best development opportunities are in a growing company. Keep focusing on growth when other CPG companies are not - you'll keep winning.

    - For M&A, keep you powder dry and continue to make smart M&A decisions. Build up an internal M&A competency; most of the growth in CPG is coming from upstart brands, and building the M&A muscle will be a good asset in the long run.

    Pros

A wide variety of opportunities to grow and stretch. Demonstrate your expertise and ability to handle complexity and watch your career grow here. Growing more and more comfortable with diversity every day. Work-life balance is refreshing here.

    Cons

Not really cons - more just observations: It can take time to get started, and you must be aware of, respect, and largely adhere to the climate and prevailing perspectives of the day. Patience and hard work are generally rewarded, but waiting for career growth here can be a somewhat long and challenging task. While recruitment, acceptance, promotion, and leveraging of diversity have improved tremendously, there is still room to grow here.

    Advice to Management

Keep going - you're doing a great job. Stay open, and please try to push the boundaries on seeking, recognizing, rewarding, and compensating your talent.
