I have been working at The Coal Authority full-time (More than a year)
Civil Service Pension
Pay isn't terrible
No catering onsite
Flexible working not actually very flexible
Pointless meetings, no agenda or minutes expected
It is normal to be late to meetings
Lots of bad information management systems
Gender pay gap
Lots of layers of pointless management
Mansfield is not a great place to live and not easily accessible
Bad managers are not dealt with
High staff turnover
Management and HR think it is a "business" and not part of the Civil Service, even though it is
No career progression
Advice to Management
Recognise this is a public sector organisation, improve gender equality e.g. close gender pay gap, improve flexible working, stop expecting people to hot desk, remove red tape, use one centralised information system, stop expecting employees to account for their time for every 15 minutes, remove layers of management, improve professionalism with regard to meetings, reinstate a canteen.
I worked at The Coal Authority as a contractor (More than a year)
Friendly helpful colleagues who are supportive and try to help you achieve your objectives. Nice site to work on with plenty of parking.
No canteen on site, despite there being over 200 employees plus another office with similar number of employees. Office can get too hot at times.
