I have been working at The Compass School full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The Compass School uses a Reggio Inspired Philosophy that focuses on the children's interest. This means that each teacher gets to make their own curriculum and not just teach out of a book. This also allows each teacher to be an individual and put their own creativity and experiences into what they do. It is also a family family centered school giving parents a feeling of home when dropping their children off each... day.

    Cons

There is a lot of responsibility that each classroom teacher must take on in creating the curriculum and making documentation that reflects the project work for both each individual child and the classroom as a whole.

    Advice to Management

Continue to support and inspire your teachers to shine.

I have been working at The Compass School full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great families and children to see everyday.

    Cons

Employees complain and talk negatively about each other all day. Administration team is horrific and they all need replaced.

    Advice to Management

The administration team is belittling, immature and petty. I heard some less than desirable things when I first started working for this school last year. Now I understand it all.

I worked at The Compass School full-time

    Pros

It was fulfilling when you saw that the kids were learning what you were teaching them.

    Cons

They care more about getting as many kids in as they can instead of focusing on the kids actually learning. So much time spent taking picture and creating booklets to make it look like each kid is doing something, which took away time to really teach (this is partially due to parents thinking their child is special and having to make sure each kid is represented in each thing...)

I have been working at The Compass School full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The school's philosophy is very child focused, and gives a lot of freedom and control to the teachers to develop projects around the interests and ideas of the children. It's a great environment to work in, and the teachers and administrators really care about what they're doing. Really like the people- it's a great community.

    Cons

With the autonomy comes responsibility- be prepared to put in the work to create lesson plans and document the children's learning. It's worth it!

    Advice to Management

Thank you for offering a Reggio-Inspired program which is unique to this area, and supporting teachers to carry out this approach.

I have been working at The Compass School full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The families are involved & supportive, which makes a world of difference to the teachers. Their is a huge sense of community all throughout the school. The teachers are warm, welcoming, and friendly providing a nurturing atmosphere for both co-workers, parents, and children. It's a joy to be surrounded by smiling faces each day! The administration is knowledgeable about early childhood development and education,... supportive, and willing to send extra coverage to classrooms when needed. There are an abundance of resources and materials throughout the school. The teachers do an amazing job at collaborating with one another to share resources and ideas. This school has become a second home to me and I am very grateful to have such a fulfilling career with this company.

    Cons

There are some opportunities for advancement, however it is a smaller company which can limit options.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work! Continue to support your teachers, families, and children, as well as you currently do.

I worked at The Compass School full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The pay is decent for this field as long as you have experience and a degree. There's a great group of teachers that work there. Wonderful kids & families.

    Cons

Management does not communicate with each other or with staff members. This also goes for corporate management. Teachers are belittled and not recognized for all of their hard work. There are no perks to the job besides minimal benefits. In house management and corporate management don't care what your life is like outside of work, your families, and don't work with you if you're stressed/have concerns - they only... care about what's convenient for them and how they can get more enrollments and make money.

    Advice to Management

Work with your teachers. If you RESPECT them, treat them with VALUE, and actually add some positive perks to the job they'll want to stick around for a while. Stop trying to constantly please corporate and stick up for your teachers - have their backs.
