I have been working at The County of Santa Cruz full-time

    Pros

The compensation package is the best in Santa Cruz, except UCSC.
Tons of time off, pension + 457 (b), healthcare, daycare, free tuition.

    Cons

It is very difficult to get a job at Santa Cruz Co, because the pay is sky high.
People are willing to drive 90 minutes from South Monterrey, and the bay area to work over here.
Most people have brothers, sisters, husbands, girlfriends, mothers, uncles working here, before they get hired.
After you work for 10-15 years, you can do a 4 day work week for 5 days pay.

    Advice to Management

    Get rid of the union

    Pros

You're close to the ocean and there are a lot of good genuine people. People are generally very nice and I've made some good friends.

    Cons

This is a place that is quick to discipline and very harshly. No room to make mistakes. No guidance, teaching or mentoring. Just quick to get rid of you if they decide they don't like you.

    Advice to Management

    Learn to appreciate your staff.

    Pros

Auditor Controller Office management is fair and level headed, professional, open and easy to talk to. Great work life balance.

    Cons

For auditors who don't have to be available to general public it would nice to have option of more flexible schedule. Option to come in early for example.

    Advice to Management

My managers were great mentors to me. Keep it up.

Organize the training for new staff a bit differently possibly longer to ensure that each new employee knows as much as they can before starting the job
