I worked at The Daily Caller for more than a year

    Pros

If you enjoy writing, then you'll have fun with it.

    Cons

Don't expect any sort of income from this. I never expected to make much money as a DC freelancer, but I did anticipate a little more than what I've received. I spent about 2-3 hours a day on a daily DC article. Monthly compensation is based on pageviews, but they don't allow freelancers access to much of that data -- so you have to take their word for it regarding it. Between searching/compiling pitches, waiting for feedback on pitches, writing the article, waiting for feedback on the article, and adding the new post to WordPress -- it's fun, but it's still work. The contract states that a monthly check will be sent out as compensation, but I didn't receive a check for 3 months at a time. I've emailed HR multiple times, and fail to get a response. As much effort as I put into my pieces, it's frustrating that I didn't seem to receive a basic level of respect.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at The Daily Caller full-time

    Pros

This is the most fun place I have ever worked. Management tells you what is expected and is totally hands off on letting you get there. If you do your job well you get total freedom. They are also extremely open to new ideas and innovations. The staff is very young and very social. They have lots of parties and other events.

    Cons

The Daily Caller has a start-up culture and a tight budget. They are not a place to get rich. While they do not micro-manage, they do expect a lot from each person. If you are not self-motivated this would be a bad place.
