I have been working at The Davey Tree Expert Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The crew leaders/members are awesome. Very veteran friendly environment. Lots of opportunity for travel and growth. Competitive environment, which feeds and nutures excellence. Managers that really do care about the safety and well being of their crews.

    Cons

Trucks and powered equipment are often on the fritz. Poor maintenance attempts from the fleet maintenance department.

    Advice to Management

Develop and reward mentors within the office. Reward publically and punish privately (have more tact).

I have been working at The Davey Tree Expert Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you like hard work and getting dirty this place has it. If you like to get top notch industry training and opportunities then this is the place to be.
Management is awsome. They will climb trees with you and when needed work in the field with you as well. The crews are top notch and great for motivation and preworkout.
60 hrs a week and year round work is awsome.

    Cons

In my opinion there are no cons.

    Advice to Management

Great work on creating a one of a kind work atmosphere.

I have been working at The Davey Tree Expert Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Health insurance, good project opportunities, steady work hours and opportunities for picking up overtime. The work is a good level of challenging and the teams are greatly safety oriented. If you love driving and traveling, this job is for you.

    Cons

Difficult but not impossible to maintain personal relationships and friendships while working this job. Finding opportunities to get promoted are common but still heavily involve the traveling aspects of a technician.

    Advice to Management

Yearly reviews to give technicians an opportunity to obtain a raise.

I worked at The Davey Tree Expert Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Semi-decent wages, benefits, vehicle provided including drive from home to job, guaranteed 40 hour work week with some overtime possible.

    Cons

Getting a raise is rare, not a lot of opportunity to advance inside the company, managers were often awol and would not even return calls occasionally. It is a contract and will probably end eventually.

    Advice to Management

Be available 24/7 and actually care about your employees. Managers should know enough about their associates to know what their problems are. Be proactive instead of reactive. Be held to the same standards as those underneath you

I worked at The Davey Tree Expert Company full-time

    Pros

None that I can think of really. Some of the people were nice but when you drink the kool-aid....

    Cons

Let's see if I can bullet them for anyone looking for a new job:
    1. Micro-management is at an all-time high at this company as your calls are monitored and recorded by the corporate office. You are "scored". Your main job is to sit answer the phones. Always.
    2. Training is absolutely awful.
    3. This is a customer service position but they don't want to call it "customer service" because it attracts the wrong people.
    4. The pay is WAY below scale. Raises are very hard to get.
    5. You will only get 5 days vacation for your first year of employment but only after your first 30 days. That's it. You are not afforded any sick time. So do the math...for 365 days, you can only take 5 days paid vacation or sick days.
    6. There are 6 company holidays. (Christmas Eve, New's Year Eve, The Day after Thanksgiving are not included...)
    7. Short-term disability is available through the company which is good....but only if you pay for it out of your own paycheck.
    8. The BCBS benefits are not good. The deductibles are ridiculous and the premiums are really high.

    Advice to Management

Be upfront with new hires. Don't post jobs as one thing to attract people to the company and then give them the title of CEC. You may want to make sure that your trainers don't continually slip up and call the CECs in training "customer service agents" especially when they were hired as administrative assistants.
