    Pros

Great for being outdoors, managers are pretty lax and you can do very well if you have a degree. Big company so you can move around the country really easily. They promote getting more education and certifications (ISA).

    Cons

Gets a little unorganized at times and working with contracts gets tricky and stressful for everyone.

    Pros

Good pay. Company truck was in good condition. Didn't work if it was storming.

    Cons

Trainer was mediocre at best. Always on his phone while driving and working. Expected me to just get the job done with no experience in that field.

    Advice to Management

    Provide better trainign

I worked at The Davey Tree Expert Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Plenty of overtime available, and they reimbursed me for taking the arborist exam. Provided a strictly monitored company vehicle for workday travel.

    Cons

No centralized office, aside from Kent Ohio, so management is very disjointed. Rampant sexism was present in the teams that I worked with. Employees are promised a lot when they are brought on, and then very few of those promises materialize. Bad healthcare options, minimal raises.

    Advice to Management

Look to increase employee satisfaction by bringing in supervisors and middle level managers that create more structure, fair expectations, and a pleasant work environment. Create more field offices to give your employees both resources and stability. Do more EEOC supported training to decrease sexism and racism in the workplace.

    Pros

There's not a lack of work and you can get as much overtime as you would like. Fairly competitive pay

    Cons

You have zero time to do anything else outside of work. Very poor communication from management to sales arborist from office staff two clients and from the arborist sales arborist to the foreman.

    Advice to Management

There's a need to reinforce communication between all parties involved including management sales arborist Foreman's and crew.

I have been working at The Davey Tree Expert Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Make a decent wage; company has some nice benefits (retirement after one year, paid time off, paid holidays off, safety bonuses in the form of gift cards, good insurance plans, stock option after one year); pretty nice level of independence/freedom while working; training programs (workbooks and online classes), safety (training sessions and weekly meetings), and equipment are decent

    Cons

Work is inconsistent and I usually don't know what my work load/length of shift will be until the morning of the day; work can be very strenuous, especially if the weather is bad; typically a rushed workload/can be difficult to meet productivity rates/not enough time is allowed to do things the right way or to a high degree of quality or safety; not much time in daily schedule for breaks and lunches; training is minimal; career advancement and mentorship could use improvement

Once training is completed, you will have great independence and will be able to work on your own. If you need assistance, co-workers are happy to help if you just give them a call.

    Cons

Some areas are very difficult to walk through because they contain large amounts of buckthorn, poison ivy, and other dense brush.
