During my time at Davey, I felt it was a friendly environment, supportive, reasonable pay, treat employees well (employee owned, etc.)

The corporate office is a bit dry. For some it works, but I was looking for something that was a faster pace.

Pros
Employee owned, employee and customer focused company. Mgmt will generally help when needed and stay out of your way when not needed. Some of the senior management is out of touch with field management while others can be pretty effective. Generally its all about results. The fact that its not public allows for more long term management focus.
Cons
You work hard, expectations are high. Mostly a long term focus but still expectations are high for short term results.

Pros
Large, stable company with solid growth, opportunity to advance. Safety culture. Training and paid ISA certification available. Employee owned company with high value ownership stock program. Emphasis is getting the days work done safely without damage as opposed to the rush to make money and pressure to take shortcuts in contract and piecework operations.
Cons
The individual offices and regions run differently depending on the local and regional managers. Some offices have better managers than others. Because there is a strong culture of lifetime career due to employee ownership management tends to stay in place longer than they should and not get replaced with the most competent person.

Have a flexible schedule. Friendly co-workers.
Cons
Used to be a wonderful place to work but communication has broken down over the years and Davey, who used to be about the employees is now about the money for senior management. This leaves nothing for the other employees. Health benefits are terrible for an employee owned company. Employees are expected to work over 40 hours if salary without comp time. Annual raises are very poor, 1 1/2 percent. Bonuses are poor as well and do not compensate for the hours worked over the year. Hourly pay is very low compared to responsibilities given. Job titles are changed increasing responsibilities without adequate compensation.

Management, coworkers, hours, good benefits and incentives, employee owned, stock options, 401k, vacation/sick time.
Cons
Pay could be better for everyone due to increased cost of living. Software systems seem outdated.
