Pros
If you like to be outdoors in all conditions, this could be a good opportunity. Also, if you don't mind working long hours under pressure from all parties involved. Pay is ok if you do really well and only when the market is good.
Cons
Management (At least at this office) showed no positive support or incentive to stay with the company. Absolutely no chance of a pay raise (Just sell more). Zero vacation time in first year, 1-2 weeks/year after that if you are lucky. Extremely stressful situations daily and condescending managers.

Pros
Working for Davey Tree in Canada can be a great job within the context of a small crew or team. In my experience working solo early in my career; I was given a truck, a job to do, and I was left alone to do it. Had the freedom to set my own schedule (within reason) and work in whatever way made sense to me (again within reason). Davey generally pays for professional certifications once you are out of your probationary period. Company is employee owned; stocks generally perform well. However employees need to buy into the stock plan so it's a long term benefit that has an initial cost (optional weekly pay deductions)
Cons
Big company = big company problems. Your yearly raise will be based on whatever percentage the corporate office will allow. Even if your manager fights for you, HIS manager may not allow a big raise and it may be based simply on numbers on a spreadsheet. Same can be said about vacation days; you may not be able to take two weeks vacation in the middle of the summer if the higher ups need X amount of billable hours per week. I don't know how higher ups are paid; but on a bad day (or under what feels like a bad manager) it feels like the people in charge are prioritizing their own paycheques over the overall well being of those working under them. I've known employees who bleed Davey green and worked here their whole lives. I've also known employees who get mad and quit in a dramatic fashion. Your mileage may vary.
