I worked at The Dump full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Easy to catch on to daily routine, some coworkers make experience easier

    Cons

Managers make you uncomfortable, drink while working, and frankly get away with a lot. If you do your job, expect to get in trouble more than if you slack off. Pay rates are unfair. Managers leave others to pick up their slack then take credit, sales associates get paid more than warehouse workers before commission even if they sit on recliners all day, went downhill after Michelle Henry left the company.

    Advice to Management

Be mangers! You're suppose to set an example, not leave others to do your work. Also, leave your personal life at the door.

I have been working at The Dump full-time

    Pros

Discounts one lot of nice furniture

    Cons

Hours. Working every weekend from sunrise to sunset gets old fast, not to mention the crazy long hours every month for any holiday the company can use as an excuse to have a "holiday sale". New Years, milk day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Easter, Christmas, Black Friday. LONG hours with no weekends.

    Advice to Management

Communicate more. More structure...this place is kind of a mess from the top down to the store level. Communication is almost nonexistent between channels.

I have been working at The Dump part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I work at The Dump in Newport News (Hampton), VA and our store manager is awesome. I'm a salesperson. The sales manager is awesome. They will do everything in their power to help work the protection plan into the deal which is awesome because about 30% of my income comes from the sale of the 5 year protection plan. The people that I work with are great and the hours allow me to pursue other interests throughout the week.

    Cons

You have to work extra days during every holiday which doesn't seem so bad in itself except we're talking about 12 hour days. Sometimes there's 6 such days in a row. I can even deal with that. What I can't deal with is upper management constantly changing our commission plans. Before it was you got 1% up to 3k, 2% up to 5k, 3% up to 8k, and so on and so on. NOW it's 1% up to 6k, 2% up to 10k, and ect. You can clearly see my gripe here. Suffice to say I'm currently searching for a new gig. I play along with a lot of things, but not when it comes to messing with my money.

    Advice to Management

This is the second change we've undergone in our pay plans in the year that I've been here. A lot of people are talking about leaving. Stop trying to save money by taking it out of the pockets of your sales people. You're only shooting yourself in the foot. The good people are talking about splitting.

I worked at The Dump part-time

    Pros

It was very laid back. When the floor was empty, employees were not taken off the clock.

    Cons

worst of both commission and hourly pay. the structure prevented workers from earning consistent income.

    Advice to Management

Put real incentives in place to motivate workers.

    Pros

none/ horrible job/ furniture is heavy, lack of organization by management causes extra work for a work staff that is under paid and over worked. Higher pay rate and better staffing are needed to help fix this as well as an entire new management team with knowledge of the furniture indusstry

    Cons

low pay, heavy product, heavy workload, under staffed

    Advice to Management

    pay more, hire more people

I have been working at The Dump full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A growing family business that is focused on providing value to customers and employees. Opportunity to earn a wonderful living while enjoying coming to work.

    Cons

Being open to the public 3 days a week (Fri-Sun) creates pressure to perform, but management is attentive and offers great support.

    Advice to Management

Continue to seek new ideas from current stakeholders. Leverage new technologies to grow revenue.
