    Pros

Employees are well compensated and benefits are average but not bad. Most properties are the nicest in the area and the company is not afraid to spend money when necessary to stay competitive. There is no structured training, but if you stick it out, you will have a great sense of how to effectively run a business. Uniform allowance is a plus and you get to choose your uniforms (within reason). I have worked for several major management companies and The Finger Companies is by far my favorite. We work hard, but anyone that strives to be successful works hard. When you do something crazy...you will know about it. :-) Current VP of Management is approachable and reasonable. Assistance from corporate employees is usually easy to come by. Mr. Finger has always been available for advice and is responsive to my suggestions.

    Cons

If you aren't willing to earn the above average salary you are paid by working extra hours and going the extra mile for your residents, you won't like working for The Finger Companies.

I worked at The Finger Companies full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Their high rate of pay.

    Cons

With your high rate of pay be prepared for the owner himself to yell at his staff. Be prepared for the rudest Vice Presidents you have ever met. Also, the lack of structure within a company has never been so evident until I worked with Finger Companies. Employees work under a scare tactic, with the risk of losing your job at any time. Your job will never be secured with Finger, unless you work 24/7 and make this job your #1 priority.

I have been in the industry for 6 years and have never seen such a line of miscommunication. The miscommunication starts when you have 2 VP's, and a Regional all over seeing a property, but they are all scared of Mr. Finger to tell him the truth about his properties. With them being afraid to tell him the truth, they sugar coat the truth to make it as appealing as possible so they can still take home those large paychecks.

Marvey Finger is not a man you would want to encounter on any business items. Rude, and quite simply, inconsiderate of others. The Finger Companies reputation continues to stand true that they are one of the worst management companies in the industry. You may have great product and perfect locations but if you, as the owner, can't show your employees respect then you will continue to be rated well under a 60% rated company.

I worked at The Finger Companies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Exceptional properties in terms of floor plans, location and landscaping. I even learned a couple of new tricks in the industry.

    Cons

There isn't a shred of decency in Marvy Finger. He buys people off to assuage his guilt. Belittle, demean, disrespect... all traits that are not worth the hard pay he offers.

    Advice to Management

Turnover will always be high because Marvy doesn't want anyone but himself to make 100% of the decisions. Don't ever think you'll make a difference because you will not.

I worked at The Finger Companies full-time

    Pros

There is always a job opening at multiple properties. Medical, 401k, average hourly. Mix off Upscale (A+) properties and "Upscale" (D-) properties the owner thinks are A+

    Cons

Marvy Finger, the owner, is delusional, screams at his employees rather then listening to the people who keep the company going. He is out of touch with his employees completely. It is very obvious that the man only cares about money and not the people that work hard to make it for him. Very High turn over, no job security, threat of termination is used as an intimidation tactic. Finger offers an annual 3% raise, but you will never get it. Bonuses offered but never paid, often commissions not paid to employees or Locators. Venders not paid in a timely manner. Rental rates are higher then other properties in the area of equal or better quality. Treats you like you are expendable. On call 24/7, No Training, refuses to pay any overtime and will have managers remove it from time cards! Finger is a tyrant and intimidates upper management to intimidate properties teams. Benefits aren't worth the stress of the job. Employees are just numbers and income, not people.

    Advice to Management

Respect the people that are the foundation of your company, from the regional managers and corporate support all the way down to the porters. Threat people like human beings. Employees should be able to separate work and home life. There is a difference between employees and servants/slaves. You would have NOTHING with out the people that work for you that personally give up their freedoms on a daily basis to make you money. Don't require your employees to do impossible tasks if you aren't willing to do it yourself... Have you ever even tried to physically lease an apartment at your ridiculous rates? Have you ever physically done the jobs of the porters, maid, maintenance, make ready, leasing, bookkeeper, managers, etc? Get to actually know the people you employ! We are real people with our own real personal struggles. Go out to the properties and talk to each employee, listen to their ideas, wants, needs, and provide the teams with the tools they need to do their jobs and make their work lives happier. This will make a huge difference!

I worked at The Finger Companies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you work hard you will get paid for it. If you work smart you will earn your bonus potential. If you can make it through year one you have a great chance at a successful career.

    Cons

Long hours and some weekends are the normal. There is more turnover than usual and it often affects building a solid team.

    Advice to Management

Management works hard to keep everyone informed on a consistent basis however the style of communication may not be as effective for everyone.

I have been working at The Finger Companies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Ive worked for finger companies for just about a year as an assistant manager and I've had a great experience. So many opportunities to grow with all the new properties that are being built. Mr.Finger is very generous and will rewards his employees accordingly for their success. Upper management is very accessible and open to ideas. Uniform money is great and compensation is much higher than other companies in the area

    Cons

Not much training for new employees and there is considerable paperwork for certain things
