    Pros

    Great campus with wonderful facilities
    Fun company events/parties

    Cons

The building is open 24 hours and you are given a laptop to take home. They will keep you busy.

I worked at The Friedkin Group (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great managers who listen and understand.

    Cons

Only wish that the pay was slightly better. Also, it would be great for the company to offset the pay with paying for certifications.

    Advice to Management

Keep on listening to your employees to improve the company.

    Pros

Great place to work for. Organized. Sticks to company values and treats employees very well.

    Cons

There are not many cons here. Overall a great place to work. Only flaw I saw while there is accounting taking over when everything is not just numbers there.

I worked at The Friedkin Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

This is a good place to grow basic skills in your profession.

    Cons

Suppressive culture overshadowed by billionaire owners who are out of touch with reality. Unnecessarily conservative, limiting employees' personal rights. People fear speaking up so work requires more time to deliver. Companies have made little overall progress in creating a diverse workforce. Top leaders are almost exclusively white males at each of the Friedkin affiliated companies.

    Advice to Management

Don't be puppets to owners. Stand up for what you believe so you maintain an identity and keep your values.
If diversity matters to the Friedkins, have your white, male leaders invest in it too.
Review your employee relations practices and assess whether the thresholds you apply really matter/give a competitive advantage, or are unnecessarily intrusive on the lives of employees.

I have been working at The Friedkin Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Friedkin and Gulf States Toyota have growing business, a great work environment, and great people. They even paid out a bonus when the recession first hit back in 2008. The company missed its goal, but we still got paid.

    Cons

A soft culture often allows people to become complacent, and you cannot compete with this culture. Some people wish for a return to the good old days, but those days are gone. Performance management needs to be taken seriously, and this would lead the a stronger company and associates with the capabilities they need today, not just the ones they needed back in the good in days.

I worked at The Friedkin Group full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Beautiful museum-like buildings, outstanding fitness center & cafeteria, valuable benefit of being able to purchase Toyota vehicles at discounted prices.

    Cons

If you're unethical, ruthless, heartless and don't care about stepping on people, The Friedkin Group (including Gulf States Toyota, GSFSGroup, GSMarketing) is the place for you. Watch your back and do not expect hard work and loyalty to be rewarded.

    Advice to Management

Get back to the roots of your company culture. It used to be a great place to work. Clean house in mid to executive management.

I have been working at The Friedkin Group (More than a year)

    Pros

Great collaboration and communication between associates. 36.5 hour work week with actual work-life balance. Good interaction between business units. Able to share ideas and work.

    Cons

Sometimes business units are too decentralized. I have found great partnership and colleagues and truly enjoy my position. I have not found many cons that are worth mentioning.

    Advice to Management

Keep valuing your associates. It really does matter.

I worked at The Friedkin Group full-time

    Pros

The campus is nice, though way out of the way unless you live in Katy. It feels very safe.

    Cons

The people, the culture, and the leadership. Any post that says potential to move up is either posted by HR or just a lie. Most people leave because they haven't received a promotion in 5-10 years. A lot of people stay because there is no other place to go since this is a very niche industry. The car distributorship model is a dying one and there are only 2 distributorships in the US. Because of this, there is an air of desperation because people are unhappy but can't do anything about it and know they can't go anywhere else. There's a lot of undermining, backstabbing, and weak leaders/managers who don't want to take accountability or back people doing the "right thing".

    Advice to Management

You need to clean house. You have a lot of weak leaders at the very top who got there based on schmoozing rather than merit. You also place people in positions without any skills or ability in that position. You set people up for failure. This is a good ol boy club and everyone suffers--not just the females but the men also that don't fit the good ol' boy look. People are hired based on who they know and not what they know. This is a business, not a club. Treat it like one.

    Pros

Health benefits are nice and company doesn't care about expenses. Field employees are allowed to drink and eat as much as they want. Since managers are so clueless, you can get away with working 20 hours a week and nobody would know the difference.

    Cons

Too many good employees leave this company. Changing commission plans every six months may have something to do with that. Also, some of their upper management/senior managers are actively sending out resumes in hopes of finding better jobs. Buy in and employee morale is probably at the lowest level in the last three years.

    Advice to Management

The "Leadership Team" needs to learn how to lead people before they start calling themselves "leaders".

    Pros

Nice facilities; Total compensation was good; Management varies throughout the organization, with some not remembering the benefits that more tenured employees have provided through their career.

    Cons

Management appears to have made the decision to let go many of the older, higher paid associates and replace them with newer associates to save money.

    Advice to Management

The training provided by HR highlights a culture that would be valuable. I recommend that you strive to meet that culture instead of simply paying lip service.
