I have been working at The General full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Flexible work schedule, remote work options, innovative and approachable leadership group, casual dress code, laid back work environment, constant advancement opportunities, topnotch bonus incentive plans, good benefits with a student loan payment plan for new college graduates, and true work/life balance.

    Cons

Changes in the leadership structure, while clearer and more precise today. has resulted in the implementation of varying visions.

    Advice to Management

Maintain your approachability through transparency, and continue to challenge the office/industry norms to attract and retain talent.

I have been working at The General full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Work-life balance, most managers are very caring/empathetic. Most employees take pride in their work and the company.

    Cons

New senior leadership seems to be out of touch with remainder of company. New leadership is less approachable and personable. Doesn't seem like they care about or take pride in the company or the employees. Pay could be a lot more competitive. Health insurance provider isn't great. Recently updated PTO policy is horrible. Company needs to get on board with the market and offer more remote opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Get the senior leaders more invested in the company and employees.

I worked at The General full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Small gifts from time to time

    Cons

Terrible management hide motives for personal gain and use fear tactics to force employees to adhere to their standards. Handing that makes one question the fine line in unfair claims practices.

    Advice to Management

People are going to see how certain divisions of this company is disgusting corrupt sooner or later

    Pros

Pay and benefits are about average Bonus structure based on profitability and growth

    Cons

Stressful, toxic work environment. Managers play favorites. and need management classes.

    Advice to Management

Treat the janitor with the same respect as the CEO. Listen and engage with the employees. If you want to take the company to the next level you need better management.

I worked at The General full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Causal dress code, jeans, tennis shoes

    Cons

Expectations vs reality are two totally different things. You are expected to be zeroed out at end of the day no matter how many new claims you get. If you get a coworkers call you are to work their file like it’s your own and still be zeroed out with your own work. So if you like working 60 hrs plus a week, getting very stern emails from supervisors advising you must zero out or possibly be written up, and enjoy...

    Advice to Management

Hire supervisors that know what they are doing and treat others they want to be treated. A few are really not nice and will not hesitate to throw you under the bus.

I have been working at The General full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are a lot of pros to working here in my opinion, and a lot of evidence that my opinion is shared by many who work here. First even though The General is over 50 years old, is owned by American Family and Homesite, it feels like a very stable start up. The sales call center, in Phoenix, is pretty small compared to a lot of sales companies in it's industry and length of time in the business. There are 5 team managers...

    Cons

Most of the cons wold be nit picky and the few that are legitimate are known and being addressed by management as it frustrated them as much as it does anyone else.

    Advice to Management

I would say to try to keep the culture you have. The General is going through a lot of changes but what makes this place special is you don't have to advertise your "open door policy" or sell how accessible management is. It just is.
