I worked at The Great Lakes Towing Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good starter job. They will just about hire anyone that can pass a test. Pay isnt bad for a 1st year welder. Can learn many trades while there (pipe, structural, fitting, cutting, etc.)

    Cons

Horrible management and decisions. Company, management, and supervisors can never get on the same page. Makes trying to follow the 'plan' a nightmare as it changes every day. Decisions regularly seem to be short term despite promises of long term work. Didn't see a pay raise in 3 years. No room to move up. Front office gets the perks and bonuses while we get a slap on the butt and a 'atta-boy'.

    Advice to Management

Get it together. Stick to your plan and make sure the grunts know whats going on. Offer some incentives for above and beyond work instead of just simply longer hours. Not everyone wants to work more to get get a bigger paycheck.

    Pros

The Great Lakes Towing Company is not a terrible place to work. The staff is a good group to work with.

    Cons

There are a lot of issues with the management. Be careful with your compensation if you get an offer. Narrowly define what you are going to get, especially if you are in sales.

    Advice to Management

Know what you want and don't lie to the employees. There are a lot of good workers at the Company, don't abuse them.
