I worked at The Greenville News full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Very progressive, fair and extremely professional workplace. Would probably be an excellent training ground for newbies in the business re: professional development and presence.

    Cons

Very top down, insular and department-centric.

    Advice to Management

The company culture obviously works well, but in the interest of training and development, make educating employees re: how EACH department contributes to the whole (with a little exposure to other areas of the newspaper) a priority.

The people at The Greenville News are very kind and genuine people. I learned a great deal about the newspaper industry in my time spent at The Greenville News and would recommend it to anyone.

    Cons

The hours are long and typically lead to late nights. Sometimes the press is running behind schedule and it delays the entire fulfillment and delivery process.

    Pros

Pros are hours. Not many sales positions offer Monday through Friday from 8:30-5:30 Working at a downtown location, easily accessible to highway. Comes with a book of buisness

    Cons

None I wish you share my rating should explain.

  7. "No work life balance, great metrics pressure. Unbelievably cut throat work environment."

    StarStarStarStarStar
      Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

I worked at The Greenville News

      Pros

Digital training, products. 401k match with sticks that are currently performing well.

      Cons

Cut throat, hostile relationship between upper management and sales reps. They move reps to positions they don't want to be in that earn as much as 50% less.

      Advice to Management

Show respect and commitment to the people who have gone through years of excruciating furloughs, layoffs and restructure and support them. Be as committed to their success and the company's.

I have been working at The Greenville News full-time for more than 8 years

      Pros

The staff has been cut tremendously over the last five years, but those that remain are experienced, versatile and committed to doing good work. The staff has done a good job adjusting to new advancements and strategies set by the parent company.

      Cons

Being under the umbrella of a major parent company like Gannett can create some challenges, when widespread corporate initiatives are not tailored to individual markets.

      Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at The Greenville News full-time

      Pros

      Good pay and good colleagues

      Cons

Micromanagement, upper management doesn't know what's going on, management is clearly far removed, etc.

      Advice to Management

Don't micromanage -- if a rep is making goal and clearly doing their job, then let them do their job. Don't ask what they were doing and where they were when they are out of the office, yet why they aren't out in the field when they are in the office.

I worked at The Greenville News full-time for more than 8 years

      Pros

Pay is OK. Benefits are OK, but expensive. If you enjoy high stress environment, no work/life balance, and doing multiple jibs for the price of one, this is the place for you.

      Cons

Where to start...horrible, greedy upper management. Very stressful and sometimes hostile work environment. No training. High expectations of employees but little support. Pay looks good on paper but not worth the stress.

      Advice to Management

Stop being greedy. Treat employees with respect
