I have been working at The Hanover Insurance Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Amazing benefit package, open-minded from an industry perspective, growth opportunities and strong candor of senior-level leadership. Stable and consistent workplace. Great campus

    Cons

Not a startup or high growth company. This acts as both a shield and a sword. No kegs in the office or similar perks, but that was not what I was looking for personally. The location outside of Boston may deter some candidates.

    Advice to Management

Continue to identify, hire and promote top-level talent and retain the cultural and corporate identity that has historically made Hanover great.

I worked at The Hanover Insurance Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good leadership in the Business Unit
    Talented local staff
    Fair compensation

    Cons

Changes at the senior leadership level and organizational structure; The message that worked for so long seems to be changing
    Needs innovation on product side

    Advice to Management

Don't forget about the importance of partnership and be ahead of the curve on product innovation, fast followers are doomed to never be in the top 3

    Pros

It is a big company with lots of different avenues, the benefits are decent with 6% 401k match. They just severely cut PTO though. If you're looking for position in Insurance you can learn a lot.

    Cons

The outsourcing is so sad and really speaks for who the company is. Where they is money to be saved your job will likely be cut. The job itself is also a soul sucking call center job where the management is not very understanding of what the job is asking if you. You are micro managed to the highest extent and too many bathroom breaks and cause concern. The company itself seems to have a revolving door even upper management.

    Advice to Management

Promote from within and stop leaving your employees in the dark.

    Pros

The company gives your ambitious flexibility and challenge
    Fabulous work life balance.
Great focus on looking after employees.
The application process is managed smoothly and professionally.
    Great communication within teams.

    Cons

Size of the business inevitably leads to communication difficulties across the business (in contrast to the high quality communications within teams).

    Pros

Monday to Friday work with flexible schedules Nice co workers and beautiful campus. In Worcester with free parking Pay is reasonable

    Cons

Recently took away 10 days off from all employees. Reducing the paid time off by almost 33%! The worst part is how they treat employees like idiots and tell us that the loss of 10 days is actually a good thing because we now have mlk and Presidents' Day off.

    Advice to Management

Your employees are not stupid. Don't treat them like they are.

    Pros

People are genuine and great to work with.

    Cons

Leadership. Top down driven. Do not accept input from field. They've recently taken away many benefits - internet reimbursement, maybe company cars and now have gone to PTO which has reduced employee vacation, holiday and sick time.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your employees.
