    Pros

Do you feel like you make a difference each day? I do -- I love what I do, and Hanover helps me to make things happen. I have worked in organizations that get bogged down by layers upon layers of approvals before anyone can execute. Here at Hanover - we get things done.

    Cons

None at this time. Thank you.

I have been working at The Hanover Insurance Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Career opportunities - lateral and promotional, are available. Co-workers are overall dedicated, welcoming, and helpful.

    Cons

Manager effectiveness and work-life balance are critical needs for improvement.

    Advice to Management

Actively ask for feedback from your employees and be willing to make changes based on that feedback. Realize that sometimes only knowing only the roles you manage at a high-level can have negative impacts on the processes and amount of work employees are expected to handle.

I have been working at The Hanover Insurance Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Amazing positive culture! The best of a team-oriented atmosphere combined with an intense focus to win and succeed. New leadership (CEO) is bringing new ideas and encouraging us to challenge the status quo where it makes sense. Very dynamic, challenging and fun!

    Cons

Some members of the executive team need to update their views about modern work practices. They're getting better, but its slow.

    Advice to Management

Balance innovation with respect for what may still be working.

    Pros

They listen and they coach - management is interested in their teams and they work hard to keep them engaged.

    Cons

The drive was a bit long for me - I don't like to drive in heavy traffic and this was really the only option I had due to the geography of the region.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing

I worked at The Hanover Insurance Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Small town, pleasant living, affordable. Easy flights in and out of town

    Cons

No work life balance. Leadership change in the branch and managers are very intimidated by sales leaders - not located in the same area. New leadership also in the home office. No other places to work in the underwriting industry in the area. All are relocating to other areas

    Advice to Management

    Support your employees more.

    Pros

I like the good work life balance there. Not a lot things going on in the area, which makes it good for someone who wants to focus on the exams.

    Cons

Unlike most large insurance companies, there are not many rotation opportunities. It's also hard to climb on the corporate ladder.

    Advice to Management

I have not much to say about the current management since I left the company for a few years. That's it.

I have been working at The Hanover Insurance Group (More than a year)

    Pros

You start out with 3 weeks vacation, 3 floating holidays, 80 hours of sick times with 40 of it protected under my state's law, 2% bonus every year, and 5250 tution reimbursement a year.

    Cons

The pay could be higher and probably should be higher, especially at the entry level side. I start out around 30k but living in MA is expensive and the cost of housing has increased dramatically so it's basically impossible to have a nice car and afford a 1 bdrm apartment on your salary. The salary is not even high enough to meet the minimum income requirements for most apartment complexes in the city the company in headquartered in.

    Advice to Management

Support employees careers including the desire to pursue something other than a business degree. I think if employees want to pursue other fields like computer science, information systems, law, nursing, then they should and the company should provide more opportunities for growth.
