Pros
Really great response time, some fantastic management elements that really drive the critical processes to the end. Relatively relaxed work environment - Flexibility in work-from-home options depending on department. The C-level staff is carefully picked, and Jack Roche is a fantastic CEO and person in general. I really am upset that I'll have to leave a negative review, because this place was pretty good on the surface.
Cons
Complete breakdown of internal communications. The C-level staff is fantastic, but all of the elements in between seem to have a complete lack of grasp on what is necessary to achieve the company goals. A lot of lip-service to improvement or what's being done, backed by complete incompetence and inaction. Certain departments are expected to be on-site regardless of necessity purely by mid/low level management decision. These decisions are made without confirmation of upper management. While striving to be an inclusive environment that drives learning. You will not be presented with opportunities to advance, nor opportunities for learning new skills while at this employer. Literally was harassed by someone in HR (who was let go shortly after) and I had to physically notify my manager because even though he was in the same room (10 meters away) he 'didn't hear' what happened. Okay. 'Someone, somewhere is playing favorites - and you're not it'. The internal politics of a corporate world are always messy, but many at this establishment seem to think that they are still in high school when it comes to talking about others. Promotions will be handed out based on back-end conversations, not performance.

Pros
Great PTO, and some work-from-home opportunities (although inconsistent)
Cons
Outside of PTO, most other benefits are extremely sub-par (healthcare offers many options but is still expensive). Even though the Howell office is responsible for most of the written premium of the company, employees are treated as “less than”. There is also a huge double standard between home office and field offices (case in point: Worcester has about the same number of underwriters as Howell despite the fact that Howell’s workload is much greater. Howell is required to stay open until 6pm, while home office is not. Howell underwriters are not allowed to work from home full time, but other hubs seem to have more flexibility. At times, the Worcester underwriters are secretly allowed to leave early, and Howell is not - Terrible for employee morale). PL Underwriting management (upper management to be exact) is extremely detached from the work that their employees do every day. They constantly make decisions that are so out-of-touch with the team (and our agency partners), and take things too personally when suggestions to the contrary are made. Management constantly claims that they are open to innovation and new ways of doing things, but if you are the kind of person who challenges the status quo, your motivation will eventually be sucked dry here. The Howell Underwriting hub has had tremendous turnover issues over the last year, largely due to the issues described above.

Pros
- Great work/life balance and work from home opportunities - Good benefits and 401k offering - Nice visibility with executive leadership team - More opportunity than ever for employees to voice their ideas and opinions to upper management - Great people who all pitch in to get the job done - Opportunities to stretch in your role are plenty - The company is undergoing some great change, including an emphasis on innovation and technology. It's an exciting time to be a part of the team.
Cons
- Insurance is a bit risk adverse but it means there is opportunity to grow and make improvements.

Pros
Good life work balance, vacation time off. Good benefit package. If you are looking for a job so that you can spend more time with your family or a place to retire from, this is definitely the one.
Cons
Cultural and management vary a lot from group to group. Some people have been there forever or for some other reasons not interested in innovation. People do realize that technology used there is REALLY outdated but there's not enough initiatives or funding from upper management to push for changes. They hire new talents for their expertise but do not utilize their skills properly. If you are looking for a place to build your career and skills, stay away from here. If you care abt your work a lot and want to make a positive impact at work, stay away from here. You will get frustrated very quickly. To me the experience here is more or less a waste of my time. It didnt add much value on my resume.

Pros
Very stable company. One of the leading competitors in their own industry. Upper management does a fine job keeping company profitable and successful.
Cons
Moving up in the company is extremely difficult if you are not located at their head office in Worcester, MA. Some departments are split up in multiple cities, which makes it difficult to receive equal attention in areas of job performance review, office culture, upward opportunities, etc. Oftentimes, people are not recognized or even acknowledged for pulling the weight of several others.

Pros
Great benefits, allow work from home, career development, friendly people to work with, well respected within the insurance community, etc.
Cons
The company has grown significantly in the last 7 or 8 years and still has many in upper management that are not national company thinkers.

Pros
Great benefits, pay and flexible. Managers are great and out of office system is great so you won't come back from vacation feeling overwhelmed or far behind. The company really looks out for your well being. Wellness center, gym where there are fit challenges, massage chairs. Really interactive and informative upper management
Cons
Claims loads sometimes aren't manageable. They are understanding but sometimes it can be discouraging. Although I feel like that's the "beauty" of claims. I think it can be better with hiring more adjusters

Pros
It is a big company with lots of different avenues, the benefits are decent with 6% 401k match. They just severely cut PTO though. If you're looking for position in Insurance you can learn a lot.
Cons
The outsourcing is so sad and really speaks for who the company is. Where they is money to be saved your job will likely be cut. The job itself is also a soul sucking call center job where the management is not very understanding of what the job is asking if you. You are micro managed to the highest extent and too many bathroom breaks and cause concern. The company itself seems to have a revolving door even upper management.

Pros
They pay slightly over market value for employees
Cons
-Terrible management -They have to pay slightly over market value due to the geographic location (very little professional pool of potential employees in the Howell MI area -Upper management is totally involved in daily operations and have no oversight nor knowledge of how the place is run
