I worked at The Hartford full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The Hartford believes in employee growth and training students fresh out of college. I appreciate the investment the hartford made in my personal and career growth! Good PTO request system, fair salary

    Cons

Salary increases generally come from bonuses, not yearly increases

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work from home flexibility, 19 days PTO, can buy extra week of PTO. Not many pros - people stay because of the WFH.

    Cons

Non-exempt and no OT avail, however they keep giving you more workload and make you do DNA badges and get emails from claimants for customer surveys - these claimants are out of work on a disability yet they want great scores and if scores aren't good then TL will call claimants asking them to change. Inexperienced TL that never adjudicated claims but constantly trying to tell you how to do your job and making you refer all claims to MCM/BHCM. MCM doesn't accept your referral because they are behind. They audit 2 files per month and ding you on things that are out of your control and hold you accountable though your TL signed off. Making you assist other Analysts so you're constantly behind.

    Pros

Great work environment, reasonable expectations, work/family balance is not just words but acted upon, good time off policy, decent benefits.

    Cons

I literally cannot think of a con with this employer. I had a very positive experience during the 3+ years I worked there.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Super flexible work schedule, and very minimal micranaging.

    Cons

The day to day work can be tedious, especially working on claims with the general public.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees more - shoe it rather than create a committee to talk about it.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits: 6% 401 K match; can roll over your HSA account year after year and the company contributes $400 to it each year, start with 19 days of PTO, get another 5 going into your 4th year, and can also purchase a week and have the option to sell it back right before Christmas for extra cash, great managers, good coworkers, annual bonuses, good work environment, everyone is willing to help each other out

    Cons

annual merit increases are pretty minimal, slightly lower compensation (it seems like) than other Group Benefits insurance companies, have to work on Christmas Eve day unless you're one of the lucky ones who can use PTO that day, no company parties or fun events, occasionally free lunch but pretty minimal perks (besides annual bonuses which are great!), pretty quiet and boring office atmosphere but i imagine that is the case in most insurance companies

    Advice to Management

Promote internally, be flexible, don't skip one on one monthly meetings

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great Co-workers. great office location. ability to work from home.

    Cons

micromanaged like crazy. case loads are too large. you have to work 46 hours per week to keep within standards, but are paid for 40-hours. managers override nurse clinicians constantly. new procedures are rolled out without being tested. different offices have different claims management procedures.

    Advice to Management

Trust your nurses' and adjusters' work. Enough with the micromanagement. Really use Six Sigma methodology, don't just pretend. Beta test before implementing new procedures. stop sending work from other offices to the Atlanta and Minneapolis offices to clean up. Advice to home office: you have way to many managers, you can make due with half the number.

I worked at The Hartford full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Good benefits, pay is decent.

    Cons

Constant changes and inconsistent messages leading to low employee engagement, subjective claim quality reviews with extremely high expectations and little management support, slow to identify problems and implement solutions. Little to no incentive for career progression.

    Advice to Management

Lead by example and openly support and recognize your staff.

I worked at The Hartford full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good starting vacation and Good Benefits
    Embraces Diversity

    Cons

The upper mgmt has determined that the Property/Casualty business model should be followed by all of the claims areas. As a result there have been a lot of changes in the claims processing standards for Disability claims and team sizes, which has resulted in a lot of team turnover and a lot of new team leaders. Team leaders are performing the QA process and there are inconsitencies in how the standards are applied.
