I have been working at The Hartford full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I've been with The Hartford for 15 years and have worked in a number of capacities throughout the company. I've always had challenging and meaningful work where I've been able to stretch and grow both professionally and personally. I have worked with great people through the years - it's the culture that makes the company stand out among others. The company has an innovative, collaborative and empowering environment that has served me well. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Hartford to my friends and family as a place to work or buy products.

    Cons

Through the years, the company has been laser focused on decision roles to ensure greater role clarity to expedite decision making. There has been great progress but with a company as large as The Hartford, there will always be more work to do on this front.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

All weekends off, all normal holidays off, Black Friday off, set specific schedule, ability to change your schedule if opportunities present, generous paid time off, 45 min unpaid lunch and two 15 min paid breaks, casual jean Fridays, casual dress months, strong presence in the community, fun events, positive work environment, multitude of helpful resources and mentors, strong support network, weekly coaching sessions with your manager, laid back management, ability to receive promotions, tons of internal promoting being conducting, beautiful and clean building, delicious cafeteria with a schedule, vending machines, awesome break room with two refrigerators, and you can't beat having your own desk/cubicle! Great place to get your foot in the door towards a professional career. I have nothing bad to say about working here, I love it!

    Cons

Nothing so far, I love working here!

    Advice to Management

Maybe just be a little bit more involved in the onboarding process, such as introducing the new hires to all of the managers and members of the team. Besides that, bravo. This is a great company to work for!

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    * Pleasant and professional working environment
    * Good benefits, especially 401K and paid time off

    Cons

    * Core source systems are ancient and generate poor data which requires immense manual effort to correct
    * Extremely limited ability to advance your career -Work harder than last year and be grateful you have a job is the implied message from senior leadership.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the employees that have helped The Hartford thru the 2008 financial crisis.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I can work remotely, I have a company car, the legal software is user friendly and other tech is very up to date, salary is competitive and bonuses can be large based on performance of company.

    Cons

I do not foresee a chance to move up although I have expressed interest to my superiors, the legal workload is significant without much support staff, bonuses can be bad on off years with catastrophic losses

    Advice to Management

I'm a young employee that would like to spend my entire career at Hartford. However, I do not feel my ambition to move into management has been fostered or encouraged by my managers. I wish I would have been paired with a mentor that could assist me in an "action plan" to make me more valuable to the company and able to upwardly mobilize.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work from home, salary is very fair, with annual incentive bonus, good training and support, friendly teammates and team leaders. Upper management is very transparent and well liked. Lots of scheduled time off. Great benefits. They take the time to listen to their employees and act on suggestions that benefit all.

    Cons

None for my position; for customer service reps, 3 unscheduled absences per year can prove troublesome, especially if you have young children- if more than 3 unscheduled, you are let go, however there are warnings prior to that, and everyone should be aware of how much PTO time they have left for the year.

    Advice to Management

Thanks for making my last job in my career (hopefully) such a great experience. I love it at The Hartford.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexibility makes work life balance somewhat manageable.

    Cons

Can't and won't retain talent. Doesn't matter how hard you work. You are just a number. IT systems are outdated and make more work than is needed. Work employees smarter, not harder.

    Advice to Management

Work harder at retaining talent. HR and recruitment is a joke. Knowledge is either laid off or they quit. Expectations are then doubled with zero recognition.
