I have been working at The Hartford full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Inclusive organization with great benefits and opportunity for advancement or transition. Laid back team environment yet still focused on results.

    Cons

Conservative approach to business. Could benefit from the example of companies like Google or other forward thinking organizations and apply that to insurance.

    Advice to Management

    None

I have been working at The Hartford (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Big company, good benefits, decent base pay, yearly bonus if you and company excel. Good training most years, if you love online web based modules.

    Cons

Short term goals outweigh long term strategies . Stock company focused too much on quarterly numbers. Extremely compatible environment both internal and external factors limit farsightedness

    Advice to Management

Plan for 5 to 10 years, not 6 to 22 months

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Smart employees, great benefits, good life balance and flexible work arrangements. Handled the 2008 crisis well. Transformed workforce quickly. Nice facility.

    Cons

Hierarchical, poor management practices, and breeds mediocrity. Finance is accounting only. Too many leaders and consultants. Too few doers. Very political.

    Advice to Management

Cut through consulting and corporate speak to reach profit priorities. Limit priorities.

I have been working at The Hartford (Less than a year)

    Pros

There is a pretty decent culture between adjusters, there are good health benefits, they match 401k, salaries are competitive for insurance.

    Cons

The management is absolute mess. The turn over rate is high because they overload new people and there is no consistency in management. Pretty hit or miss with who you get. My first manager made me want to quit-- she was belittling and when I spoke to management they told me it was *me* that was the problem.

There is opportunity to move up but no training for it. So you basically drown.

    Advice to Management

Work on claim overload. Hire more adjusters and work on retention.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexibility of hours worked. You can really come and go as you please so long as you get your 8 hours in. Other than that I wouldn't say there is any pros. Decent pay but there are literally 3-4 companies all doing the same thing nearby with the same rates and benefits without any of the hassle.

    Cons

The management staff really has no clue what they are doing and in department meetings when problems are brought to their attention they side step and make excuses for themselves. They will tell you your maximum caseload may be 80-100 but the reality is you will be doing the work of two people because everyone leaves and they need to move that work somewhere so expect a caseload of 160-220 easy. Lucky you. The training is probably the worst aspect of it and everyone in management seems to be aware of the problem yet exercise no ability to implement change or even try to teach you on their own.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your staff. You are beyond disconnected from your workers. Quite frankly they should toss all of you out and find managers that can actually ya know.. manage people. Learn to communicate and teach the employees that come to The Hartford with little to no claims experience as the rest of us who do have that experience and understand were being overworked are just going to continue to leave until you can MANAGE (key word here) to get it together. You are opening a Phoenix hub and scrambling to fill it with people when the reality is your management staff is the true cause of what's driving everyone away.
