    Pros

Bonuses when the company does well. Great 401k match, work from home, salary decent. Health benefits only okay. But have other benefits for your family that are nice.

    Cons

This used to be a really great company to work for. Work life balance is deteriorating significantly. Even working from home is not a benefit when you have to work 12 hour days and on your time off to keep up, even as a strong performer. Performance reviews are not consistent or fair which impacts your raise and bonus. Staff who have been with the company for a long time are not held accountable for their negative behaviors and favored. And middle management is useless because they work long hours and are getting paid salaries the same and sometimes less than the the staff they have to manage. Why stay a leader when you are handing out $8000 bonuses to your staff but only getting $3000. No incentive to progress your career or take on extra responsibilities because your work load isn't adjusted accordingly.

    Advice to Management

People should not be allowed "special" work assignments and rewarded for outstanding production when all they work on are easy "triage" files. This skews metrics and negatively impacts the remaining clinical staff. Changes should be made before all truly strong talent leaves. And reward team leaders by paying them what they are worth and giving them time to actually lead
And develop their staff. Why bother having an employee survey if you make your employees fix your problems for you.

The only way to repay loan is to fill out a form send to your main office with either casher check or money order they wont let you pay online you have to mail it in which is a lot longer process than needed

    Advice to Management

I have been working at The Hartford full-time

    Pros

    Sense of "giving back" feeling

    Cons

    You are just a number
Management is in their own bubble-no understanding of what really goes on.
    Money Hungry- laysoffs common
Poor Management- management needs complete reorganization. From the CEO and down.
Very Political. Users LGBT as a cover.
Not minority friendly- claims to be "diversified" but that only pertains to the gay community.

    Advice to Management

Nothing that hasn't already been said. Management just isn't concerned with the issues that really matter.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    •Salary
    •Benefits
    •PTO is generous
    •Work - life balance
    •Wellness focus
    •History and local presence
•Free parking and home office shuttle

    Cons

•Executive and higher management tiers are showing signs of stress , pressure and this is then expressed in frantic decision making in the business units. Your manager will be under even more stress than you which will quickly become apparent to you.
•Diversity and Inclusion is the mantra but is not uniformly practiced.
    •Data driven overload
    •Finish line is often moved.
•Not every manager is at ease with the continuous performance dialogue the company espouses. Some are. Some cringe at more than an annual and mid term review, it's just too personal. Many styles have emerged lately. Learn your manager's actual communication and feedback style and shorthand. Observe it, ask others for objective opinions ( don't gossip, just get the landscape). Not understanding this can create unpleasant surprises and damage careers.
•If you are a naturally trusting person, check yourself often here. Be yourself but be on guard.
•Find an outside mentor if you need to vent. Do not do it within these walls.
•A difficult place to work these days
•The company has an honorable history and many fear that this is falling apart on the inside
•Everyone is pretty busy watching themselves, it's sad, but healthy cynicism is a job aid if you choose a career here

    Advice to Management

•Spend smart money to make smart money
    •Value employees
    •Consider spending more on developers
•Company feels disheveled - acronyms, actual initiatives and new systems sound like a big mess of platitudes for The Street. Not even your employees understand which is which, let alone producers.
•Keep the history of this great company in mind as you consider the future.

    Pros

    Decent pay and benefits
    Some remote work

    Cons

This company pretends to be contemporary and progressive, but the reality is that top leadership is still a bunch of white guys in suits who have antiquated ways of thinking about talent, diversity and flexibility.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at The Hartford (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Competitive Salary. Not enough pros to fulfill the minimum word count.

    Cons

Salary still not enough to deal with the stress and corporate politics. Benefits pathetic considering this is a large insurance company. Jobs get worse, not better.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees. Make jobs easier, not harder. When you have a retention problem, don't sweep it under the rug. Don't cut bonuses the second times get tough.
