I have been working at The Hartford full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

All attys work remotely (at home) so no daily commuting and hours are a bit flexible. Good if have kids. Co. pays for internet fee, and has an app so can use your cell phone instead of co. cell phone

    Cons

Extremely stressful and very overworked. Most attys leave after a year or two. The only ones who stay are much older and/ or had been with the company for many years before co went remote. Always short on staff. Expected to do a lot of secretarial work so co does not have to pay OT to support staff. No paralegals to help attys.

I worked at The Hartford part-time

    Pros

Professionals were working to help the company.

    Cons

District Office treated employees as inferior employees.

    Advice to Management

Get better District Managment that does not have a chip on their shoulder.

I worked at The Hartford full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Peers and direct supervisors were great, they cared about each other and the work.

    Cons

Workload is too high, turnover too high, they hire only what they consider to be TOP QUALITY when in reality most jobs can be done well by most people; if they only trained better. Company prides themselves on diversity D&I; but women and people of color are not well represented in leadership roles. It is very much the good ol boys club. They need to be open to hiring different people, promoting based on skill and potential and not just location and who you know. It very much felt like they only promote in home office.

    Advice to Management

Replace ALL the leaders in PL Ops and hire people that are reasonable and will work on turnover and make the workplace better. Everyone knows that the leadership is afraid to make the changes required to improve the culture. Even HR is unable to make any improvements or changes. Hire new people with different thoughts and management approaches, your shareholders will thank you!

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work from home flexibility, 19 days PTO, can buy extra week of PTO. Not many pros - people stay because of the WFH.

    Cons

Non-exempt and no OT avail, however they keep giving you more workload and make you do DNA badges and get emails from claimants for customer surveys - these claimants are out of work on a disability yet they want great scores and if scores aren't good then TL will call claimants asking them to change. Inexperienced TL that never adjudicated claims but constantly trying to tell you how to do your job and making you refer all claims to MCM/BHCM. MCM doesn't accept your referral because they are behind. They audit 2 files per month and ding you on things that are out of your control and hold you accountable though your TL signed off. Making you assist other Analysts so you're constantly behind.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexibility makes work life balance somewhat manageable.

    Cons

Can't and won't retain talent. Doesn't matter how hard you work. You are just a number. IT systems are outdated and make more work than is needed. Work employees smarter, not harder.

    Advice to Management

Work harder at retaining talent. HR and recruitment is a joke. Knowledge is either laid off or they quit. Expectations are then doubled with zero recognition.

I worked at The Hartford full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Work life balance was good. The company was going through tough financial times and they did their best to not go with massive layoffs.

    Cons

Lost institutional knowledge by following bad advice from consultants. Changes made from the guidance given by the consultants were reversed within 24 months. The company did not value managers that knew the product and processes of what they were managing.

    Advice to Management

Management has changed over since my time.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    PTO Amount and flexible schedule

    Cons

No loyalty to long time employees and high turnover rate. Management doesn't listen to yearly employee surveys. No room for real growth.

    Advice to Management

Respect your employees. It cost more to hire and train new hires yet some managers are so willing to let employees go. Get managers who actually know the job and business so they can fully direct the teams with accuracy.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The Hartford has good retirement and healthcare benefits, free parking, and an onsite gym. Also, there seems to be a decent work life balance.

    Cons

The Hartford does not seem to have a clear strategy. There is a lack of leadership at the middle management level. There is no prioritization so everything is important and nothing gets accomplished. Multiple projects will plan to solve the same issue with no coordination among them. The company is very focused on status quo and "because we have always done it this way" seems to be the answer for everything. Most ambitious and passionate employees burn out in about 6 months and resort to collecting a paycheck. There is a lot of inefficiency in the workforce and some departments seem very top heavy. There seems to be a lack of strategic focus and everything we work on has a 3-6 month timeline, I never felt there was any focus on the future.

    Advice to Management

Clean house on some legacy departments. Evaluate middle management leadership competency and develop a key talent retention strategy.
