I worked at The Hartford full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Great benefits and flexibility
Really smart people, work was challenging and fun
A lot of opportunity to get involved with different committees, meet people throughout the organization and be part of a community

    Cons

The business is currently in an expense reduction mode, which comes with the loss of really great employees and consolidation of responsibilities (more work, more hours, no more pay)
Moving around was difficult unless you fit exactly into their "culture"

    Advice to Management

Learn to be more diverse - not necessarily in demographics but in the manner of thought and work styles of the people you hire. Having more creativity and diversity of thought breeds growth opportunities.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I can work remotely, I have a company car, the legal software is user friendly and other tech is very up to date, salary is competitive and bonuses can be large based on performance of company.

    Cons

I do not foresee a chance to move up although I have expressed interest to my superiors, the legal workload is significant without much support staff, bonuses can be bad on off years with catastrophic losses

    Advice to Management

I'm a young employee that would like to spend my entire career at Hartford. However, I do not feel my ambition to move into management has been fostered or encouraged by my managers. I wish I would have been paired with a mentor that could assist me in an "action plan" to make me more valuable to the company and able to upwardly mobilize.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits (vacation, insurance, etc.) and for what my job is I get paid pretty well for the kind of work I perform.

    Cons

Leadership is never on the same page. Some leadership has no first hand experience with the duty required so they sometimes don't make the best choices when it comes to executing changes.

    Advice to Management

See above. Listen to your employees. They want to do better, so help them do it.

    Pros

Big company, good benefits, decent base pay, yearly bonus if you and company excel. Good training most years, if you love online web based modules.

Short term goals outweigh long term strategies . Stock company focused too much on quarterly numbers. Extremely compatible environment both internal and external factors limit farsightedness

    Advice to Management

Plan for 5 to 10 years, not 6 to 22 months
