    Pros

    1) There are plenty of opportunities within the company to move around and try out different roles.
    2) There are a lot of great people that work there
    3) Hard work is rewarded handsomely (Once you get to the management level)
    4) The Hartford does a great job assisting individuals reach their professional goals (FCAS, CPCU, etc.)

    Cons

    1) Hartford, CT is not the most happenin' town
    2) Lots of red tape - it takes incredible amounts of energy and effort to accomplish anything
    3) Occasional silo mentality - all units not always communicating with each other and lack of understanding/appreciation of what is involved in completing some tasks

    Advice to Management

    None.

    Pros

Generous salary opportunities for those who work hard and flexible work arrangements are welcomed.

    Cons

Emplyees can get "boxed in" to a position very easily. If management views your role as being critical to the overall success of the business unit, divison, they are not always open to allowing he employee to move over into another postion/department.

    Advice to Management

Iwould like senior management to be more open to career development/advancement of junior staff. Many mid-level staff feel "stuck" because there are limited Assistant Director -Director level positions.

    Cons

Not many oppurtunities for growth in San Diego. Sometimes the management uses you for the our advantages. Everyone else is nice.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good wotrk

    Pros

The Hartford is very supportive of its actuarial students. The rotational program is what you can make of it. The opportunities to grow and understand the industry are certainly there.

    Cons

Advancement for actuarial students comes from passing exams. It sometimes seems that this emphasis on exams is used as cover to brush off work.

    Advice to Management

The business aspect and the bigger picture could be better communicated. Lower level workers may have difficulty making sense of how their efforts contribute to the good of the company.

    Pros

The hartford is currently going through a reorganization where there is a shift in attitude of employees where feedback is very important and one-ness is also very important. The hartford had a lot of redundant processes so there is a move to fix this problem. Also, overall, work/life balance here is very important. If you need time off there's no issues at all. It's also a great place to team build because people are into Happy Hours and doing things together to socialize and become a stronger team.

    Cons

I can't really say that there are too many downsides, but one is that things tend to take a while because the sense of urgency in people isn't extremely great. This will come with culture shift, though, to a more united organization with updated processes. That said, a lot of the processes are quite old but are being updated today.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work! It's a great idea to include new talent!

    Pros

There is a lot of freedom in how I perform my job. I have a good supervisor who trusts me to do the right thing. I am recognized for my abilities and rewarded for them.

    Cons

I haven't experienced any so far, but my job is different from probably 95% of what others do in the company.

    Advice to Management

They need to continue to hire the best people available and cull out those who are not doing a good job.

    Pros

    Great people
    Very fair manager
    Total Compensation package was good
Manager was always very interested in my long-term growth within the company
W would recommend this company to my friends and my children

    Cons

Sometimes people did have the same sense of urgency that I posessed
Budget constraints often limited our initiatives
Senior managers were not always open to suggestions from the troops

    Advice to Management

You have some very talented people who want to do a world-class job for you. Clear out the dead-wood and help us really succeed
