    Pros

Good pay and benefits. Company offers bonus incentive that everyone looks forward to as well.

    Cons

Unreasonable workloads and expectations. Salary is well earned. very punitive environment. Very little recognition.

    Advice to Management

Senior management may want to consider call monitoring their managers to have a better understanding of how most of the managers communicate with the employees. If management wants their employees to provide exceptional service to their customers it should start with treating their employees well.

    Pros

    -Ethical company
    -Potential overtime if Non-Exempt
    -Team oriented
    -Flexible work hours
    -Inspiring corporate leadership
    -Promotes health and wellness
    -Great benefits
    -PTO is very generous

    Cons

    -Overwhelmingly fast paced at times
-Salary did not reflect the difficulty of the work
-Work-life imbalance (often found that work was taking over life. Would worry about work on the weekends.
    -Sometime would work weekends
-Would mostly be at very high claim volume as there would not be enough analysts.

    Advice to Management

Please increase the salary for analyst positions within the Group Disability. The amount of work we experienced on a daily basis was overwhelming and did not equate to the compensation that was being given to us.

I have been working at The Hartford (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Competitive Salary. Not enough pros to fulfill the minimum word count.

    Cons

Salary still not enough to deal with the stress and corporate politics. Benefits pathetic considering this is a large insurance company. Jobs get worse, not better.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees. Make jobs easier, not harder. When you have a retention problem, don't sweep it under the rug. Don't cut bonuses the second times get tough.

I worked at The Hartford full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good opportunities for a career. They pay for continuing education. Their actuarial program is one of the best in the insurance industry. Most people I worked with were very friendly and helpful.

    Cons

Too fast paced for people new to insurance. Bosses can let their own feeling impact important decisions, like firing employees at the drop of the pin.

    Advice to Management

Be careful who you choose as management. My last boss was so bad, the guy on my team who ha worked there for 17 years quit because of her.

I worked at The Hartford full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

401k matching, Good benefits, great vacation package, and bonuses are very generous. You get a lot of experience in a lot of different roles just by doing 1 job.

    Cons

No opportunity for career advancement and absolutely no work life balance. The focus is so much on the customers as it should be, however to management the employees are the customers and there is absolutely no focus, strategy, balance and a lack of willingness to understand their employees concerns. The is a mass amount of turnover, continuously and management avoids the real issue. Surveys are done bi-annually to solicit feedback from the employees but you are manipulated into giving false info about your concerns and senior leaders, because it reflects how you will be paid and your success. Whenever an issue areas, you are told to creat a plan. Once you have a plan, they want you to create another plan to maintain that plan. It's a never ending pyramid of plans, that no one sticks to more than 1 to 3 months. Taking paid time off hurts you more than anything due to the workload and the constant understaffing. There is never a focus on anything until it becomes a huge red flag issue, their is no proactive planning or troubleshooting. Accountability goes about as far as the analyst, never management. It surprises me that the claims departments have such a trend in loss of talent and turnover and no one has taken time to look for the deeper issue. Salary is fair but poor in comparison to competing companies and extremely low for the amount of work and time required. Also, last thing and finally. The recruiters are terrible, absolutely terrible. If you apply for a job that you are beyond qualified for, you may or may not receive feedback or a response after they've already filled the position you interviewed for. Something has to change, because this department is destroying The Hartford brand. This is a great company with a lot of perks. Stay away from any direct claims position. You have been warned.

    Advice to Management

Revamp the claims model, focus more on your employees concerns and not just around survey time. Establish a better sense of accountability for all including management. Work on work life balance, you cannot expect for employees to be engaged when you are not helping to reduce the stressors. Career advancement and promotions.

Common sense is discouraged, you're basically a paper pusher force to follow all their draconian policies to a T. Little room to move up and moving up is only possible by kissing butt!
