I have been working at The Hartford full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great work/life balance, good starting pay, excellent leadership team, great flexibility to change positions via internal job posting process

    Cons

Poor salary increases over time, manages by consensus so decisions take a long time, too many good people have recently left the company and this is crippling the organization.

    Advice to Management

The merit review system is broken. It's a demotivator and should be scrapped.

    Pros

Excellent starting pay compared to other companies. Excellent benefits.

    Cons

Job security is poor. Always hearing about "Reorganization"....Company tends to replace people when they are at the top of the tier for pay.

I worked at The Hartford full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Never felt that I had to compromise my morals or worry about the rest of the company's behavior.

    Cons

Starting to pay less while expecting work with high level of complexity and responsibility. More than half the people failed to even pass the first round of testing to be licensed but wages were same or less than a regular data entry job. Also, high risk - tenured reps could be walked out for what would normally be overlooked at least for awhile longer.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There is a strong focus on growing your skills and advancing your career within Internal Audit. They don't want you staying at the same point any more than you do, and work to give you good assignments to help you grow. The flexibility and work/life balance is fantastic within the department. While there are some projects that will have you working some extra hours every now and then, the hours are otherwise very consistent, and the ability to work from home when needed is encouraged and supported.

The corporate benefits are pretty solid as well, in terms of a generous 401k, free on-site gym and health facilities, and opportunities to reduce your healthcare premium through healthy activities.

    Cons

Since 2008, the company has been undergoing constant change, in terms of selling businesses, closing offices, and retooling remaining businesses. The technology is quite outdated, though they finally started to replace much of the old technology in 2013 and will continue to do so over the coming few years.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people here are phenomenal. Leadership truly cares about your success. The Hartford invests so much in their employees. The training and benefits are great! I did not have any previous call center experience but it is an easy environment to adapt to. I have had jobs before this but I stopped here because I found a CAREER! If you are motivated and can hold yourself accountable for results, this could be the career for you!

    Cons

If you are not comfortable with having a structured schedule, you may struggle in this environment. If you can be punctual when arriving to work and return from your 15-minute breaks and your 30-minute lunch on time then you will not have any issues. It's a call center so there is a culture of accountability.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work/life balance was good. Could work remotely whenever I needed to due to weather, mid-day doctor's appointments, etc. Culture at The Hartford is awesome - everyone is willing to help and open door policy with everyone. Pay, as with all insurance companies, was great.

    Cons

Can be boring at times. It's an old company that needs to be more innovative.

    Advice to Management

The Hartford used to have a lot of perks that they don't anymore. There should be more sponsored events, picnics, etc. Need more innovation to keep up with competitors. Things like White Stag should be a norm.
