I worked at The Hartford full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Time off, good salary, set schedule, opportunity to work from home. It was a nice place to work from 2006-2010.

    Cons

Constant short staffing making more work for employees. Upper management pushed to make it happen. No time for training or coaching. No time off the phone. Constant back to back calls from angry customers. Very stressful.

    Advice to Management

Hire more people and make sure you train them properly before throwing them on the phone and screwing everything up

I worked at The Hartford full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people were friendly and there is a stunning amount of vacation time available after training. I was there less than six months and was able to take a one week vacation.

    Cons

Metrics, that is all they care about and they throw away too many good people. You feel like you have to watch the clock more than help the customer.

    Advice to Management

Quality is more important than metrics. Customer service is more important than metrics.

    Pros

    Nice people great benefits too

    Cons

Not enough training and no management appretiation for jobs well done. Not interested in quality just how quick it can be done according to there timelines. Get it done cheaply and quickly.

    Advice to Management

Keep the experience and stop outsourcing to save a buck.

    Pros

Lots of criticism, advancement for people they like - not for the best qualified person.

    Cons

Advancement opportunities are few and far between.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Many talented, ethical people. Management has done a great job turning the company around and has communicated a clear direction for the future.

    Cons

The company is obviously run by accountants - emphasis is on numbers and bottom line without proper attention to employee needs. Mediocre benefits and pay. Improved emphasis on teaching managers to manage but most still don't develop their employees.

    Advice to Management

Get out of your ivory tower! You won't accomplish your objectives if you continue to squeeze the rank and file who are subjected to unreasonably increasing workloads, decreasing benefits and stagnant compensation.

I worked at The Hartford full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I did not stay at the organization long enough to observe any pros. The organization does seem open to telecommuting roles, which I consider positive.

    Cons

My on boarding and first day experiences were poor. It does not seem like the organization has a systematic way of handling telecommuters.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time

    Pros

    Ability to work from home

    Cons

No pay raises, slowly taking away all the good benefits (pension is gone, extended FMLA time is gone). I have dedicated many years to The Hartford and they do very little to reward you.

    Advice to Management

Pay to keep talented employees. Years of service should show dedication to the organization. Stop being so numbers driven on direct employees. This place went from being a 5 Star company to work for to be at best a 2 star company. Pay your employees better.

I have been working at The Hartford (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Location, pay, building is new and clean

    Cons

management cultivates "pets" who get the better shifts, etc, discipline is not meted equally, work load distributed by favorites, training by virtual trainers on speaker phone in different states is sub par, no clear direction on protocol of scripting

    Advice to Management

    1. You may ASK me a question, you may not AX me that same question.
    2. Graduate from high school emotionally before starting in the workforce

    Pros

Work from home option. Stock option is ok.

    Cons

In a word..micromanagement. controls and audits and re occurring trainings on every aspect of job. treat employees like replaceable parts instead of people. Poor wages. Unpaid overtime.

    Advice to Management

Trust your employees more. Let them do their job without so much interference. Lower claims case loads. Focus more on actual work results and less on controlling the steps taken to get there.

I worked at The Hartford full-time

    Pros

Good benefits and PTO and work life balance.

    Cons

No promoting from within, all managers care about are metrics. They don't treat you like professionals always hire from the outside. Micro manage your work. Make decisions without asking those it will effect.

    Advice to Management

Choose better management. Upper management needs to be cognizant of good employees.
