"But you have work/life balance because we let you work those 50 hours from home."-my former supervisor

    Pros

Remote opportunities Values and rewards community service even for remote workers

    Cons

My supervisor had me work over to complete his/her work and then entered into files as his/her own. This was not a case of delegation. Bonus program pits employees against each other which if you have a particularly evil supervisor he or she will exploit to no end. Training and standards are subjective and inconsistent. Micromanagement, constant pointless meetings, and more micromanagement. Did I mention micromanagement? You are expected to work 50+ hours a week. If you need time off during the week, it does not matter if you have worked over 40 hours, if it's during business time you will take PTO. Regarding the 50+hour work week. My supervisor told me that I had work/life balance because I got to work those 50 hours from home. IT is horrendous to the point of impacting your productivity if you are remote. No coverage when you are out for less than 3-5 days. And if your team lead is feeling petty and vindictive no coverage for the 3-5 days. That day off you want to take? Sick child? You pay for it.

    Pros

great benefits that start on day one

    Cons

NO work life balance; they expect you to work an impossible caseload in a 40 hour work week. They will give you a little overtime but it's still not enough time to handle the caseload. The training is inadequate and there's no consistent support after you come out of training. I had 6 different mentors, all with different teaching styles, who were also under stress to process their impossible caseload while mentoring a new employee. They always talk about work life balance but it's just that, talk. I regularly started my work day before 6AM and left after 5PM, often times working off the clock in the attempt to process my heavy caseload. 2 of my coworkers who were hired with me had panic attacks at their desk. I also know of another former employee who was fired via Skype. Run like the wind from The Hartford. There were 4 people who started working at the Hartford with me. Only 1 of those remain. Don't say you weren't warned.

"Is this good for the company?"

    Pros

Great starting pay for recent graduates. Good on the job training. Opportunity for career development with specialty underwriting projects.

    Cons

No room for advancement. Work/Life balance has slowly shifted negatively due to high employee turnover and not hiring new replacements. Underwriting is turning into a call center for agents and management will support the agent relationship over underwriter decisions

Meh. Ambivalent. Still too soon to tell how they will do.

    Pros

Good ethical company with long standing reputation. Conservative in their financial and management approaches (this can also be a con) Nice facilities Positive on Work/Life balance

    Cons

They have struggled greatly in recent years. While they cam through the storm and seem to be making in through, still they are a bit shakey. They did pay back TARP but they are still reorging and aligning to the new chairmans vision. Significant layoffs in recent years have caused challenges in work/life (something they excel at typically)

    Micromanaging at its finest

    Pros

Overall compensation package, benefits are decent, and remote work due to Covid.

    Cons

Management loves to micromanage. They forget we are all adults. They tell everyone’s business and call it being “transparent”. They are constantly finding things wrong with everything employees do. The work environment is very depressing. They expect you to work overtime constantly as if the job is the only thing in your life. There is never anything positive. Workload is way too high and impossible! Expectations are ridiculous!

    Pros

The paycheck and some of the benefits. Some good people, but even those seem to be flying out the door more and more, which is really a infinite con.

    Cons

Leadership that doesn't seem to know what they want to do. Historic management that clearly didn't know what they were doing. Employees that don't seem to have the tools or the skills to compete in the marketplace. Work life balance doesn't mean working from home is a good thing in many cases. Doesn't have the clout it thinks it has. Musical chairs of employees and management. Your traditional corporate politics company, its everywhere.

Most hated job I have ever had

Sep 27, 2017 - Customer Relationship Specialist in New Hartford, NY
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

The co-workers I had were really wonderful

    Cons

I don't even know where to beginning . It is a call center environment. They micro manage your every move up to the point where I had my manager coming over to my desk or messaging me if I was doing something wrong in that moment. The objectives are very unclear. They pay attention to so many stats that it is very unclear what they are asking for. It is a difficult work environment. They also talk up their benefits a lot but they really aren't great. Their health plans are terrible. The 401K is nice. The work life balance that they so heavily promote isn't even close to what they say. You are constantly competing to get days off with others around you. If a day isn't available then you are out of luck and you have to call in. If you call in too many times then you get spoke to and eventually fired. There are so many people that quit while I was working there and even though some people like it - a lot of people wanted out.
