    Pros

Stable company and its work from home

    Cons

Commissions is low and they ding you for everything. As one reviewer put it, you're not a sales agent but a strict underwriter

    Poor Work Life Balance

Sep 19, 2015 - CCA in Minneapolis, MN

    Pros

I love my coworkers. Very ethical environment. Training is good. Management is professional and ethical as well. If you work very very hard you can be promoted.

    Cons

There is high turnover. Awful work/life balance. Not family friendly but very LGBT friendly. Vacation lottery is a joke. Great job if you are single with no family or commitments. They only let a small percentage of people work from home or work part time. Not a good place for flexibility in scheduling. Micro managed using workforce mgmt.

Strong financially but needs to be more employee focused.

Feb 25, 2015 - Sale Consultant in San Diego, CA

    Pros

The positive was that you can work remotely from home. Benefits were great with 15 vacation right off the bat. Company offered competitve medical and dental plans as well as 401k matching and Employee stock purchase plan.

    Cons

I work in a call center environment. The company is solid but if you are looking for good pay and advancement this is not the place. This is the only company I know who base your performance on how long you talk on the phone and base the quality of your work on whether or not you reviewed notes before answering the clients question and whether or not you asked another rep if they are transferring a call to you .. like come on.. you can do everything correct in terms making the correct financial decisions yet get a low score just because you forgot to say thank you. They are a walking contradiction.. they want you to make the client feel warm and fuzzy but do so in under 5 minutes. As for wage.. don't expect to make $40,000 even after 6 years on the job. The only redeeming thing about working her is that you can work from home which was more or less a cost cutting measure vs a perk. I would also like to add that the turnover is very high. Back in 2006 to 2008 the company was hiring alot of new employees mainly for sales and service. I would say that more than 70% of those hired during that time have either quit or been let go. I would recommend this to a recent college graduate to get their feet wet but after 3 years move on. I was there 6 years and have overstayed mainly because i can work from home.

I am a happy employee of HIG

May 8, 2013 - Billing Specialist in Clinton, NY

    Pros

The company spends alot of money on its employees and I am very happy there. They are always doing employee engagement activities and it makes the work day go by very quickly. I work with a great group of people and its my home away from home.

    Cons

There are few cons for me, I'm trying to be a remote worker and there is a long wait for me. This is the only thing I can think of at the moment. Many companies don't do remote workers at all, so really this is also a pro.

Was once a decent place to work...hope things turn around.

    Jul 20, 2014 - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

The paycheck and some of the benefits. Some good people, but even those seem to be flying out the door more and more, which is really a infinite con.

    Cons

Leadership that doesn't seem to know what they want to do. Historic management that clearly didn't know what they were doing. Employees that don't seem to have the tools or the skills to compete in the marketplace. Work life balance doesn't mean working from home is a good thing in many cases. Doesn't have the clout it thinks it has. Musical chairs of employees and management. Your traditional corporate politics company, its everywhere.
