I have been working at The Health Plan full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great health insurance coverage, low premiums and out of pocket costs, dependent children can be insured. Decent starting wages. Work from home opportunities. Flexible work hours depending on department and requirements. Great support from immediate management.

    Cons

Little room for upward mobility. The growth of the company is stagnating the lower level employees that are looking for promotions. Spouses are no longer allowed on insurance coverage if they have coverage available through their own employer.

    Advice to Management

Great job on expanding and growing the company, it is important for the long term success and growth of the company. Don't forget to take care of the little people at the bottom, holding everything up and supporting your members and providers. Feed the Eagles and starve the Turkeys.

I have been working at The Health Plan full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay and plenty of vacation and sick time

    Cons

Benefits are never correct causing providers and member to call back multiple times getting different answers each time they call in, upper management is more worried about the shoes you are wearing and how many "personal" pictures you have hanging in your cubical than having the correct info for the customer service reps to give out, also them tell you that after working in the company for 6 months you have the opportunity to bid out on an open position in another department...but if they can hire someone for a lower rate they will choose the outsider over an employee that knows the system, managers do not take calls even if a caller asks for one...you will be told to deal with them yourself, you are given 12 vacation days your first year of working for the company but good luck trying to use them because your time off depends on how much phone coverage there is, if you work the 12-8 shift you cannot keep food in the kitchen because they throw everything away at 3 pm right before you are able to go on lunch, account executives will throw you under the bus for their mistakes and you will have 4 or 5 different benefit grids to choose from, no parking at the Saint Clairsville office and you have to pay to park in the parking garage at the Wheeling WV office and walk 4 blocks to the building.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to expand so quickly, fix the issues with the groups you already have before taking on additional groups. Stop worrying so much about how many pictures we have hanging up and fix the benefit grids so they all match and are correct

I have been working at The Health Plan full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Location, insurance affordable, 401k match, holidays off, generous sick time, vacation days are decent.

    Cons

Certain dept have clicks that make the environment difficult to work in. Can be a high school environment

    Advice to Management

People in mgmt positions need regular coaching on how to treat underlings. Titles go to their heads.

I worked at The Health Plan full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Cheap health insurance (though it goes up every years and co-pays are getting out of hand), dental reimbursement, vacation time.

    Cons

Certain departments have a hostile work environment. A lot of back stabbing and work place bullying. Promotion depends on staying on the boss's good side no matter what. Even if it means throwing someone under the bus. Definitely a good old boy environment. If you are male and are in with the right people you have access to golf outings where the bar is wide open all day. If one of your underlings accomplish something of value....just kick them aside and take all the credit! Management seems to be aware and completely OK with it. Salary is not competitive. Massillon staff makes substantially more than St. Clairsville office staff with same job descriptions. There is no pay scale for job descriptions....it's a secret!

    Advice to Management

They won't care until it is too late.

    Pros

The Health Plan has great benefits. There is an almost unheard of 10% contribution to the retirement plan. Family health insurance costs around $125 per month with little copays.

    Cons

There is little room for advancement, unless you are part of the old boys' network and are a good golfer. Management runs the company in an autocratic style, not welcoming input from employees at any level.

    Advice to Management

Don't be so concerned about your next tee time and instead be at work, doing work - like the rest of us are required.
