I worked at The Henry Ford part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You'll get to learn a lot of history and new skills. Learning to cook on a coal burning stove and spin wool, ans other things that are difficult to experience anywhere else. You get to interact with lots of different people and are given freedom and flexibility to create your own presentations based on the historical information they provide.

    Cons

The recession has been difficult for them and upper management is frequently on edge and looking for more and more extreme ways to cut costs.

I have been working at The Henry Ford part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The thf is a very nice place to be if you can keep to your self and visitors lots of animals.

    Cons

Terrible management, bad decisions if you are one of there pet people you have it made. Otherwise they will only promote you on the basis of who you know not what you know. I have been here more than 5 years I have gotten a 20 cent raise in the time I have been here. They don't treat there employees the same if your union you might get a 50 .00 bonus after taxes non_union might get 300.00 it's a joke.

    Advice to Management

You need to realize what your employees on the lower end do for the Henry Ford because you could not pull it off with us. Have a little respect for us and pay us a little more. When you have a president that makes a couple hundred thousand dollars a year and you pay you're employees mimium wage and management treats you like you don't matter, it's pretty disheartening. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

I worked at The Henry Ford part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Offers flexible hours and work around your school schedule, great coworkers and the management cares about you and opportunity to advance

    Cons

Pay is too little as compared to the work the person is expected to do

    Advice to Management

    Increase pay

I have been working at The Henry Ford part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The staff consists of talented glass blowers that are exelent at their craft. The production of a family of products enables less experienced craftsmen or students to develop a solid foundation in the medium of glass.

    Cons

The summer months yield an extremely hot working environment for glass blowing. From labor day until memorial day (Autumn to Spring), the glass blowers are required to wear khaki slacks and long-sleeved, collared shirts as part of a uniform provided by the museum. The uniforms are inapropiate for such a hot working environment (even during the cooler months), and they are not properly fitted resulting in an unproffessional appearance.

    Advice to Management

With a starting wage around $8.50/hour, the pay is too low to attract experienced craftsmen or interested students. Promises of pay increases from management go unfulfilled causing frustration.

I worked at The Henry Ford part-time

    Pros

Staff looks out for each other. Lots of opportunities to be a part of large interesting events (maker faire, salute to America, cultural weddings etc.)

    Cons

Impossible to work over 30 hours unless you are salary.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing. Creative people excel in their positions and The Henry Ford really does praise innovation.

I worked at The Henry Ford part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The atmosphere, the work, and the people are all reasons to work there. You really get the sense that the museum and village are run by a group a highly intelligent, caring people, who wish to preserve history and educate both the employees and the visitors.

    Cons

Part-time historic presenters only make minimum wage. It is a great job for a student or retiree looking for a very enjoyable 3-4 day work week.

    Advice to Management

I know you're running a non-profit, but the employees would certainly appreciate a raise in pay.
