I worked at The Hershey Company full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Lean structure allows associates experiences that would be available to only more senior employees in other organizations; small size means that everyone knows everyone else and has direct access to leaders.

    Cons

Dramatic recent culture change. After many years acting like a small(ish) family company, Hershey is evolving into a cold, faceless big company. It used to be more about people but now it's more process/legal/bureaucracy. This is a direct result of senior leaders pushing aside longtime company veterans to make room for execs from other big companies. The recent corporate restructure was handled terribly, eroded morale...

    Advice to Management

Reinforce the culture that made Hershey unique for decades; becoming a cookie-cutter CPG company.

I worked at The Hershey Company full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Many smart, hardworking employees who want to win and want to utilize a "team" approach. For the most part the employees care about each other which helps keep one motivated when you work lots of extra hours. Company pay very well but benefits, like medical, continue to be squeezed. Company has many strong brands and there is a desire to assure quality remains strong.

    Cons

Environment is heavily process driven and decisions take an inordinate amount of internal alignment to things moving. Sr. Management has lost some sense of the optimal price/value within the category and competition is starting to win. The total business is often challenged as the desire to expand globally does not work with the U.S. being the sole profit driver. Thus, the core business is always getting asked to do...

    Advice to Management

Focus more on long term vision than the need to impress wall street each quarter. Add more U.S. supporting resources to help sustain profitable growth instead of overstaffing/spending in global markets that will take years to even achieve small profits.

I worked at The Hershey Company full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good salary. A select few of the leadership are visionary. Some of the people are genuinely concerned about employee welfare.

    Cons

The constantly declining shares and fluctuating stock value is driven by : -LACK OF TRANSPARENCY in career progression - though there are politics in every workplace, in Hershey after a certain level, it is completely about who you know, not what you know. As a result, there have been some great minds that have left the business for the same reason. -THE CURRENT RESTRUCTURE RETAINS MANY OF THE SAME BOARD MEMBERS FOR...
