I have been working at The Hershey Company part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pay is decent and you do get paid for mileage from home. Customer you call on are the best part to make your job better. 4 day work week only 5 hours a day. Can’t have no more than 20 hours. Route is flexible you get to plan your own route for the day. Get paid for our of town meeting to and from your house time starts when you leave and of course mileage. Mileage each day is from your home back to your home....

    Cons

Do not expect training to where you understand completely. Have to learn as you go from hiring on. Sales are the biggest part of job. Merchandiser in your title is a joke. Main job is sales. Should be Retail Sales Rep and pay to go with it. No benefits, no paid sick time unless you use vacation. If you have to be off even for inclement weather you must use vacation or personal holiday pay to get your scheduled...

    Advice to Management

Upper management and HR get out of office and visit people and territories ask questions. Life as a RSM your money makers is not as glamorous a job as you think. You need to find out all you implement and how it is being handed down to the people. More money please and remove merchandiser from name as we do not have time for merchandising just sales. Meetings need to be where you can express negative as well as positive...

I worked at The Hershey Company part-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The work you do is interesting and you get to travel to convenience stores in your area and meet a lot of people. I loved the job, or at least I did before the company sucked all the enjoyment out if it. I worked in two different districts, Atlanta and Charlotte West, and had fantastic coworkers in both. Very exceptional people. I didn't get to see them very often, but seeing them at meetings ended up being the only thing...

    Cons

The culture is absolutely horrible. Very hostile work environment with gaslighting and mind games. Someone told us at a sales meeting that the RSM team is a "cheap date" for the company. It is insulting to hear something like that but hey, at least they admit it. They don't pay enough for what you do in this job and it shows how little respect they have for you to say something like that. When I started this job 12 years...

    Advice to Management

To paraphrase Ayn Rand...you can avoid reality, but you can't avoid the consequences of avoiding reality. You can't avoid the consequences of poor business decisions and disrespect. The people who are out in the field every day are the ones who know what is going on. You're not listening and you only hear what you want to hear. You have to start from a place of mutuality and respect. Learn to respect the way people work...

I worked at The Hershey Company part-time

    Pros

Very friendly coworkers and management; minimum wage pay, which is pretty great for college students like myself; many of the tourists from outside of the U.S. are honestly the friendliest people I've ever met

    Cons

No visible opportunity for promotion; unsteady hours; I've come across some incredibly rude customers on occasion

    Advice to Management

Especially with the new store having opened, maybe try to create some room for promotion. Well, I'm not sure if that's up to you or the actual Hershey's company, but it's a thought!

I worked at The Hershey Company part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The management I worked initially with was very nice and helpful. She was my trainer also. Meetings a couple times per year with upper management that listen. 401K even as a part time employee

    Cons

Management for the merchandising position is constantly changing b/c they're getting prompted. There are no options to advance being a merchandiser.

    Advice to Management

An amazing Merchandiser could be management material. That should be considered.

I worked at The Hershey Company part-time

    Pros

Time off Tasting the different chocolates

    Cons

Supervisors are little to no help even when overwhelmed Low hours Low pay especially for the amount of hours given No teamwork

    Advice to Management

Be aware of the type of people you hire especially for managerial roles. Hire team oriented people that are willing to actually help the employees. Overnight should be compensated more for the amount of work and the little amount of hours given.

I worked at The Hershey Company for more than a year

    Pros

Great for retired professionals who only want to work monday - thursday. Gas reimbursement is average. 401k for part timers as well as vacation days

    Cons

No chance to work more than 20 hours per week, no chance for any real kind of raise no matter your results or how hard you work. Always having to train your new supervisor because of turnover

I worked at The Hershey Company full-time

    Pros

Eating chocolate while at work. Seriously. That's the best pro that I can remember. Oh yeah, and dinner for free in the Hotel near the store, they allow us because we use their trash cans.

    Cons

Work four nights a week, for a low wage but even lower working hours, little more than 20 hours a week. No "time and a half" payed even when you work on the night after 4th of July, because technically, you are working on 5. of July. Managment just doesn't really care about employees, they will even tell you in your face that you are replacable.
